Community And City Buzz Make Independent-Living Home Ideal

Posted 6 December 2021 by Helen Christie

A Salisbury homeowner has reflected on her first year living in a ‘happy, fun and welcoming’ Salisbury independent-living village in the city centre...

Elizabeth Adams, 81, moved to Chapters, off Wilton Road, at the start of the year, and says that she loves living within the community, which is located just a short walk from Salisbury’s centre.

She also enjoys Chapters’ on-site communal facilities, which include a bistro, bar, lounges, and activity room, which play host to a daily programme of activities for the homeowners to enjoy.

Elizabeth says: “There are two reasons that I love living at Chapters. Predominantly, I love the development and I think the design of it is fabulous. We all have lovely homes and there are central parts of it like the bistro, where we all gather and have lovely times. It’s a very happy place. It’s a lot of fun. When I moved here, it just felt like moving into a lovely, welcoming home.

“The second reason is that it’s very close to Salisbury city centre and for people who are just retiring, or are retired, Salisbury is buzzing. It has everything – Music, theatre, shops, and the market – everything that you could want, and it’s a short walk, or a short bus ride away.”

She adds: “The foremost attraction in the city is the cathedral and everything that it brings with it. I have become a Friend of Salisbury Cathedral and I love the music. From the cathedral, you get a lot of things opening around it. I love the buzz. I feel alive when I go into the city.”

Elizabeth says that she moved from out of the area to Salisbury and so a huge benefit has been the many friends that she is making at Chapters.

“I don’t come from around here and I don’t have any family here, but I have a few friends from nearby where I used to live, and also I’m making new ones here. It’s quite easy to do. In this community, it’s very easy to make friends.

“We have a focus group which consists of the community managers and a few residents, and we organise tons and tons of lovely events. We’ve got quite a few things lined up for the next few months.”

Chapters has a dedicated on-site community manager who helps to organise fun activities such as wine tasting workshops, cheese and wine evenings, yoga, quizzes, and crafts, as well as providing practical and emotional support to the community’s homeowners.

The Salisbury-based community comprises of a choice of apartments, houses and cottages which start from £120,000 for an apartment and from £252,500 for a cottage or house with the Platinum Skies flexible shared ownership option.
