Family Plant Roots In Portobello Development

Helen ChristieThree years ago, Anamaria Rehbein and partner Mike Liddle moved from Leith to The Strand...
Top of their list was a high-quality home that didn’t break the bank, and they diligently researched their options in the area. New to the market at the time was Barratt’s three-bedroom townhouse, which offered generous room sizes and a coveted private garden. However, it was the location that sold the pair on the move. The Strand struck the perfect balance of access to outdoor space, with Edinburgh’s only beach on their doorstep, but crucially without sacrificing the liveliness and convenience of living in an urban centre.
The increased living space has been crucial over the last couple of years as Mike and Anamaria made the transition to homeworking following the announcement of a lockdown following the Covid-19 pandemic. Their daughter was delighted with the extra space in her bedroom, and excited at the prospect of hosting sleepovers with her friends. The communal garden has been perfect for their three new dogs to roam and for the couple to make friends with their neighbours.

Initially only planning to stay short-term, Anamaria described the development as having “a real sense of community, something that we did not expect and something we did not experience when we lived in Leith”, which cemented the couple’s decision to set up more permanent roots in the development – and help others to do the same. The support from Barratt’s sales team as well as the location and community feel led Anamaria and Mike to purchase an additional three apartments at The Strand, with one let out to family and another two to rent to those looking for a vibrant place to live, such as young professionals.
And with views of the sea and Arthur’s Seat offering a stunning backdrop to the properties, Anamaria and Mike are among the happy buyers pleased with the rental capabilities of their first plots and look forward to getting the keys to their next property.
Anamaria remarked on the positive impact Barratt has brought to Portobello, with the developments attracting young professionals and families alike. This has brought an influx of economic benefits, injecting a positive energy and ethos into the area, making it highly desirable for both renters and buyers.
A range of two-bedroom homes with a bespoke design for Portobello are currently available at The Strand, and the two-bedroom ‘Ness’ show apartment is available to view by appointment. Prices start at £281,995.
