Malvern Family Swap Old For New

Darran, Kerry and Florence have move from a Victorian house to a larger, low-maintenance new build Bromford home...

A Worcestershire family have upsized their lives, giving them more space to grow, by moving to a brand new Bromford home in Malvern.

After spending over eight years in a three-bedroom cottage built in the area in 1850, Darran, 51, and Kerry, 50, decided to make the move to Bromford’s Bluebell Walk development with their 13-year-old daughter Florence.

The family found themselves in need of more space and were looking forward to living closer to local amenities, in a home that was low maintenance, warm and reliable, whilst also being energy efficient.

Darran, who works as a teacher, said: “We really wanted to upsize to a new build property, as living in an old property was a big drain on my time with upkeep and the heating was constantly on, so we really hope we’ll be able to save money on our bills, especially now energy prices are increasing. With older houses we have owned, it always felt like our possessions were in somebody else’s building, but a brand-new home provides a sense that this is really our place.

“We looked at many developments, but without a doubt Tracy, our sales executive, was the best we dealt with. She went out of her way to make sure we were looked after and had all the information we wanted. She was incredibly efficient and thorough when dealing with our enquires, and gave us great advice too.”

In a bid to improve their lifestyles, the family of three purchased a four-bedroom ‘Harrier’ style home, which offers plenty of space for each member of the household and perfectly suits their situation.

Darran added: “There were lots of reasons for choosing this home style. We have an en suite and a family bathroom, so getting ready for work and school in the morning is now much less stressful. There’s a separate dining room where we can get together to eat as a family, and plenty of space in the spare bedrooms for family and friends to stay.

“Florence loves her new room, whilst I think the garage is great. Kerry likes the lightness of the lounge, but loves how easy the kitchen is to cook in. The windows are really big and the ceiling height is very generous, which really helps with a sense of light and openness.”

Moving to a more central location provides the family with all the benefits of living near to a bustling town, without losing the idyllic rural lifestyle.

Kerry, an accountant, said: “Our new home is close by to many local amenities, but we can also walk or cycle straight out into the countryside, so we have the best of both worlds! We can cycle to Malvern in just 15 minutes, and if we travel 15 minutes in the other direction, we find ourselves deep in some beautiful Worcestershire countryside.”

Phase 1 of the Bluebell Walk development is now sold out, but new affordable homes will soon be released as part of Phase 2.
