Whirlwind Two Years For Buying Couple In Haslington

Daniel and Sarah Kelly have had a whirlwind two years which has seen them meet on a Tinder date, move in together, get engaged, get married and buy a new house.

The young newlyweds are now taking the time to relax after moving into a four-bedroom detached Bovis Homes property at Vistry Mercia’s Hazelmere location in the Cheshire village of Haslington.

“It really has been a crazy two years in which we have managed to fit quite a lot in,” said Sarah, a 33-year-old teacher at a sixth-form college. “Now that all the excitement is over, we are just taking the time to relax and to breathe – in our lovely new home.”

Their adventure began in July 2020 when Sarah and Daniel, a 34-year-old medical engineer, met on a Tinder date in a pub in Congleton. “It was the first day that the Covid restrictions were lifted and you could actually go out and meet someone who was not in your family or your bubble,” said Sarah. “We both enjoyed the real sense of freedom and we just got on really well. Before you knew it Daniel had moved into my house in Congleton.

“Eight months later, we got engaged and set the date for the wedding on 9 July 2022 – almost exactly two years to the day that we met. As we were committing to getting married, it seemed a natural progression for us to buy a home together. My house was a two-bedroom end-of-terrace in Congleton and we knew we needed more space.”

In February 2022, Sarah put her house on the market and it sold within two hours. “I knew it would go quickly but I did not expect it to sell that fast,” she said. “We had already been looking at houses so we were now in the position to be able to reserve a new home.

“I was brought up in Haslington and know the village very well and my parents still live there. It was always a dream of mine to move back there and we liked the look of the Hazelmere development.

“We got to see inside a four-bedroom ‘Aspen’ show home and knew immediately that was the house for us. The space and light inside the property just blew us away. It ticked all the boxes for us – we wanted four bedrooms, a big garden and a garage for extra storage. It had all of that and much more.”

The couple and their two cats Tommy, 12, and seven-year-old Tibbs, moved into their £374,995 new home on 24 June – just two weeks before their wedding day.

“Our original move in date was in August but they were able bring this forward and I said they could pick any weekend other than the one before the wedding day. As it happens, we moved in two weekends before the big day. It was not a problem or a cause of extra stress, as everything had been organised. We had a lovely wedding day and got married in a wood in Cheshire, then went on a fabulous two-week honeymoon to Mauritius.”

Sarah and Daniel’s favourite room in their new home is the large kitchen/dining room. “It is an incredible space,” said Sarah. “At the old house, the kitchen was not big enough to fit a table in but here we have a dining table and chairs and a sofa, and an armchair and it still feels airy and spacious. The kitchen/diner runs across the whole back of the house, and we have bi-fold doors which open up a huge space and lead right on the back garden, which is not overlooked. We haven’t entertained that much so far but we have my four-year-old nephew over to stay and he loves running in and out of the doors into the garden. Now that we have four bedrooms, even though my nephew has claimed one of them as his whenever he sleeps over, we still have two spare rooms. It is fabulous to have all this extra space.”
