Sarah, 55, and Russ Shadwell, 58, moved into their new £875,000 detached three-bedroom home at Bewley Homes’ flagship Beaconsfield development at Wilton Park in September and their daughter, Sophie, and her partner, Shawn Galvin, are virtually next door.
Sarah and Russ sold their family home of 21 years in the town and Sophie and Shawn have moved from a characterful Victorian cottage in Penn back to Beaconsfield.
Moving to Wilton Park works well for Shawn’s daily motorway commute to Watford, where he is a director for a mechanical and electrical company. Sophie, an analyst for a fast-growing construction software company, in Gerrards Cross, works from home with a flexible commute.
Explaining the move, Sophie, 26, says: “We were all avidly house hunting for new properties during the same period which sparked our search for new builds, and we just all fell in love with the style of this Bewley Homes’ development at Wilton Park.”
Shawn, 30, comments: “The four of us first visited Wilton Park during the opening weekend and we went straight ahead and reserved off-plan, and on the same day Sarah and Russ reserved their home too. We fell in love with what Bewley are building and the impressive collection of property styles and how it will ultimately look once finished.”
Sarah adds: “Beaconsfield is the perfect location for us with so many amenities on our doorstep. Russ and I decided to downsize from our family home which backed onto the Chiltern Hills. It worked for Russ, whose hobbies are golf and boating. It also worked for me, as I love walking our dog, the gym, travelling, eating out and shopping and, of course, we want to be near our family and friends.”
Sarah says: “We looked at both show homes and were impressed with the quality of the homes, the kitchens and bathrooms and high-quality products used. We couldn’t fault the finish throughout the house. We thought the front of our house looks very grand with the sash windows, ‘The Grosvenor’ aptly named by Bewley Homes, is a very good-looking house.”
The sociable couple love entertaining and, like their daughter, have a dog so downstairs space and the layout was important when choosing to downsize. Sarah continues: “As we were downsizing, the downstairs accommodation was important to us. This gave us the generous open-plan kitchen/dining/family area we so wanted. The patio doors from the kitchen/family room and from the lounge both open up onto a large patio and a south-facing garden which appealed to us as it’s great for socialising with friends and family. In fact, our house ticked all my top three boxes – location, large kitchen/dining/family room and south facing garden.”
Russ is happy that the house has a car port and that Bewley Homes offered an excellent choice of kitchen units, bathrooms, floor and wall tiles. He says: “We liked the fact you could pick a package option for this so all would be coordinated and there was a very good selection of carpets too.”
Russ adds: “The Bewley team have been amazing, always willing to help and advise with any new build questions and any alterations we’ve wanted to make we’ve managed to do. We have to give a special mention to Emma and Caroline who we’ve been dealing with, always a pleasure to pop in and see them. Having Sophie and Shawn as neighbours is wonderful. As a very close family, we love to spend time together, so this could not have worked out better.”
Much like her parents, Sophie was looking for a home with real curb appeal. Their three-bedroom terraced with an attached car port, for two cars, impressed them both, ‘with the front view of a beautifully landscaped garden area overlooking the four-bedroom homes.’ The couple both liked the attention to security with the private car port and walled porch entrance – ‘great for the dog and future family members!’
Shawn says: “We both love interior design and originally wanted to build/design our own home so we were delighted with having the package choices of kitchen worktop and cupboard designs, bathroom tiles and carpet options. The individuality of the exterior of the homes in the phase and the modern design of the garden areas attracted our interest as no area is the same.”
