West London Development Is Perfect Choice For First-Time Buyer

Posted 21 September 2022 by Helen Christie

A first-time buyer used Help to Buy to purchase a home at Berkeley’s The Green Quarter in West London…

Will Angel, 23, a product manager at a tech start-up, purchased his one-bedroom home at The Green Quarter, West London, in early 2022.

Originally from Ascot, Berkshire, he bought the apartment using the Help to Buy scheme with money made through financial investments.

Will says: “Before I moved, I was renting a flat with my cousin in Battersea right by the river. When he left London, I decided to find a one-bedroom home – initially I wanted to rent, but rental prices were so high, so I looked into buying instead.

“There were some ‘must-haves’ that had to be met before I considered making an offer for a home. It had to be available through the Help to Buy scheme, it needed to be in an area with strong investment potential and great transport links were essential too. I also wanted the interiors to be smart and modern – my previous home was a new build and I really liked that.”

Will works in West Kensington and regularly heads into central London to catch up with friends, so the draws of a quick commute were impossible to ignore.

Will continues: “We looked around a lot of developments across London and narrowed it down to just a few. In the end, I chose The Green Quarter because of its location, the investment potential and because it has a Crossrail Station.”

The development is a two-minute walk from Southall Station, providing links for residents to Heathrow in approximately 10 minutes and London Paddington in 15 minutes.

Will explains: “When I moved to London I sold my car, which means quick train links are essential, especially as I head into my office every day. The Elizabeth Line will shorten my commute significantly. It’ll also make travelling into central London a lot quicker and easier as well which is great. One of the biggest reasons I bought at The Green Quarter was the Elizabeth Line. It’s led to huge investment in the area and made Ealing one of the capital’s fastest growing boroughs in my opinion."

A new town square will welcome people to The Green Quarter and lead directly to a new commercial neighbourhood, which will provide a mix of day-to-day amenities for the whole community. The first residents’ facilities are due to be opened later this year, including a fitness centre with a state-of-the-art gym and health suite, a private screening room, and concierge service.

Will concludes: “There’s so much money being invested in the Southall and Hayes area right now, and I wanted to be a part of that. There’s a supermarket and shops in walking distance and I’m really excited for all the residents’ facilities and other shops and restaurants that are coming to The Green Quarter. I completed in less than a month, which felt incredibly quick for a first-time buyer, but I got loads of support from Berkeley’s sales team and the mortgage broker.”

At The Green Quarter, Berkeley is aiming to create one of the UK’s most biodiverse new developments. The 88-acre scheme will be delivered in phases over the next 25 years and comprise 3,750 new homes, as well as 13 acres of new parkland and wetlands.

Prices at The Green Quarter start at £442,500 and there are currently one- and two-bedroom apartments available. Some are ready to move into now and many can be purchased using the Help to Buy scheme.
