Beekeeping Couple ‘Buzzing’ About New Home On The Isle Of Wight

Keith OsborneA couple who run a business selling and designing bee-keeping equipment, have relocated to the Isle of Wight from Cornwall, and into the second Barratt Homes property they’ve owned.
Wendy and Kevin Potts (both 61), moved to St George’s Gate in Newport at the end of September, and their relocation from the popular county on the South West coast, has been a long time coming.
The duo love being near to the sea and countryside, but, although Cornwall has that to offer in bucket loads, the hordes of tourists that head to the county every summer, meant the couple craved somewhere a little more relaxed.
Wendy said: “We’ve wanted to move to the Isle of Wight for a while, after holidaying in the area, but we haven’t been able to find the right property. We’d purchased a Barratt home previously and we were very happy living there, so when we came across Barratt’s St George’s Gate, we knew it was right.”
Wendy and Kevin were won over by the development surrounded by rolling fields and country walks and couldn’t wait to move to their brand-new house with Labrador, Emma.
Kevin said: “As we settle into our new home here, we feel much more relaxed. It’s wonderful to be in a quiet location, near to the coast and country for our walks with Emma, but also close to all the shops and other amenities we might need.”
Choosing to downsize to a smaller property, the developer’s ‘Brandon’ home had just enough space for the two of them, along with their dog Emma, and rabbit, Jasmine. It has a front-aspect lounge leading to an open-plan kitchen/diner, with French doors to the garden. Upstairs there is a spacious main bedroom, two single bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Wendy added: “We lived in a Barratt home in Northamptonshire two years ago, so we knew we’d be well looked after and receive a quality home – and the ‘Brandon’ home at St George’s Gate was ideal for us.”
Creative Wendy has already been putting her own stamp on the property with her unique artwork designs. She said: “I love to paint, and I couldn’t wait to put my mark on our brand-new home. Some of my personal artwork is now brightening up our living room, stairs, and upstairs landing.”
Tammy Bishop, Barratt Homes sales director, Southampton division, is delighted to hear that the housebuilder’s Island development has become the new home for Wendy and Kevin. She said: “St George’s Gate is in the perfect position to enjoy all the great things about the Isle of Wight and it’s wonderful to hear that Wendy and Kevin have decided to relocate to this fabulous part of the country. I wish them all lots of luck for their new chapter.”
St George's Gate is a selection of two- and three-bedroom homes within walking distance of Newport town centre, with pric currently starting at £225,000. There are excellent transport links around the island and the development is only five miles to Cowes for the car ferry terminal to the mainland.
