New Residents Welcomed At New Home In Calne

Posted 25 June 2021 by Keith Osborne

Thomas and Amy were attracted by the contemporary design and semi-rural location of Backhouse's Merlin Rise...

Thomas Bye, 30, and partner Amy Green, 28, moved into their contemporary-style three-bedroom detached home at Backhouse development Merlin Rise and couldn’t be happier.

The new homeowners are delighted with the generous use of glazing throughout the property. Thomas said: “Backhouse has incorporated far larger windows than you would normally expect in a new build. The use of glass creates so much natural light and brightness throughout the inside of our home.”

“The downstairs open-plan layout and design is a real show-stopper,” explained Amy who added: “We love the high ceilings, the way the space flows, and the way the practical storage, downstairs cloakroom and utility are all positioned in a ‘hub’, to maximise the large amount of flexible living area we have.”

The couple are also thrilled with the sleek style of the upstairs bathroom and bedroom en suite, and value the kitchen with bi-fold doors on to the garden is another great feature. The couple also chose to opt for two generous driveway parking places rather than a garage, which Thomas said he knew “would just be filled up with clutter”.

Amy added: “We were offered a wonderful selection of tiles and worktop finishes to choose from; all our Bosch appliances are integrated and included in the purchase price. The attention to detail and quality of the finish from top to bottom is so carefully done and feels incredibly luxurious throughout.”

Twelve months ago, the couple, had been looking for somewhere bigger in the area and originally, they intended to buy another second-hand property. But when they returned to view it, decided it was not right for them. The estate agent selling their property told them about the new collection of homes being built at Merlin Rise and Thomas and Amy wasted no time in making an appointment to visit the show home last February 2020.

Thomas said: “As soon as we approached the development, we liked the semi-rural location with the fields surrounding Merlin Rise. The show house was like nothing else we had seen on the market and we both agreed that the open plan layout and quality of interior design and finish was brilliant and offered a home we could both enjoy living in.”

Thomas and Amy reserved a three-bedroom home at £385,000 off-plan using Help to Buy.

Thomas and AmyOriginally from Bristol, Thomas first met Coventry-born Amy at university nine years ago. In 2016, the busy career couple moved to Calne in Wiltshire, to take up new management roles both working for Sainsbury’s.

Amy works in Chippenham and Thomas is based in Swindon, so the journey to work for both of them takes less than 25 minutes. That leaves more time to enjoy the large garden, which Amy was especially keen on and Thomas reckons “is one of the biggest on site”.

Amy said: “Our garden looks over the fields behind where six horses graze. From downstairs, we can even see the National Trust’s Cherhill White Horse, three miles east of Calne and also another well-known local landmark, the Sherlock Monument. We both enjoy walking and the countryside, so to have this on our doorstep is fantastic.”

The collection of 21 three-, four- and five-bedroom contemporary homes offer buyers an exclusive and distinctive edge, created to reflect Backhouse’s ethos of creating the best of 21st-century modern living for buyers at affordable prices.

Emily Adams, head of sales and marketing at Backhouse, said: “We are delighted Thomas and Amy have moved in and are thrilled with their new home. As you would expect from this stunning looking development, Merlin Rise has sold very well and and we are very excited to show case this development in a wonderful part of the country. We have been extremely pleased with the feedback from buyers and are receiving a high level of interest with potential buyers eager to view a show home.”

Prices at Merlin Rise start at £385,000 for a three-bedroom home rising to £579,995 for a five-bedroom home with a wide range of contemporary looking designs. The sales and marketing suite is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
