A Fresh Start at Laurel Grove for Downsizers

Posted 14 August 2018 by Helen Christie

A downsizing couple travelled more than 150 miles to find their ideal new home at a Bloor Homes development in Fareham…

After finding a new job in Portsmouth, Neil Simpson, 49, and his wife Vivienne moved across the south coast from Plymouth to the Laurel Grove development, off Bishopsfield Road. Neil previously lived in a new build home, so knew of the advantages of buying new, but for 51-year-old nurse Vivienne, it was a step into the unknown.

The pair downsized from their old four-bedroom home and purchased a three-bedroom semi-detached house at Laurel Grove. Vivienne was sceptical about moving to a new build property, but was soon impressed by the quality of the homes at the development.

She says: “This move is a fresh start for us; it’s a new home, in a different area and we both have new jobs, so settling in to our new environment has been very exciting.

“We weren’t initially looking for a new build home when we started our search, but we had recently spent a lot of money refurbishing our old place and we didn’t want to spend a fortune doing up a second-hand property. When we moved in to Laurel Grove, our home was immaculate. I couldn’t fault the workmen and any snags we have had have been dealt with quickly by the aftercare team.”

Fareham proved to be an ideal location for the couple, who were eager to explore their new surroundings and sample the social life in the nearby cities of Portsmouth and Southampton.

With easy access to the M27, Laurel Grove is perfectly positioned for commuters, and Vivienne’s journey to work in Southampton only takes 30 minutes.

She continues: “Fareham ticked all our boxes; it’s an easy commute to work and we can enjoy the benefits of having two cities within easy driving distance. Our home is perfectly located within the development too. We enjoy a lot of privacy because we’re in a far corner and we don’t have much traffic driving past us. It really is a lovely development in a great area.”

The last homes remaining at Laurel Grove include a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, priced from £257,500.
