Quality, aspirational new homes abound in historic Lancaster

Posted 25 July 2014

With new homes well under way at Lancaster's former Moor Hospital site, award-winning Story Homes is not the only housing developer busy creating high quality aspirational homes in the city.

With brains and beauty, Lancaster has it all. Compact, full of historic landmarks, and well-connected by road and rail, it is a vibrant, arty city and a great place to live. There is a wide choice of well-respected schooling, and its university is ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world. There is also plenty to explore in the surrounding area - it is just a short drive to reach the beach at Morecambe or the hills of the Lake District National Park.

Story, Redrow, Barratt and Persimmon are amongst the housebuilders currently active in Lancaster, giving house buyers there an impressive choice of new homes.

In the city

At Story Homes' High Wood development, many homes in the first phase are now completed - offering a leafy, sustainable community blending three-, four- and five-bedroom semi-detached, detached, terraced and town houses priced from £282,950. The original hospital building will also being converted into apartments. Situated on the edge of town, 1.4 miles from the city centre, High Wood incorporates pleasant outdoor spaces and new footpaths and cycle ways that will link to existing networks. It is also close to the M6 for commuters - offering reasonable commuting times to Preston (30 minutes) Manchester (an hour) and Liverpool (an hour and 10 minutes).

Riverside View, a development from Barratt Homes, has a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom family homes with contemporary stone elevations in mews, semi detached and detached styles. Priced from £185,495 to £292,995, the development enjoys views of the River Lune and offers easy access to the city centre 1.2 miles away. For families with children, there is a great choice of primary and secondary schools in the local vicinity, as well as a good range of essential amenities. For commuters, the development is just a mile from Lancaster's main line station, and three miles from the M6. The first phase of building started in Autumn 2013 with 33 homes already sold, and the first completions are taking place this summer.

Redrow also has new homes available at Riverside View in the same location, including two-, three- and four-bedroom properties priced from just £99,995. They are built in the housebuilder's popular Heritage Collection house styles, with exterior features inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and interiors that are fitted with modern luxuries.

Less than a mile down the road from Riverside View, Persimmon Homes also has a riverside development called St George's Walk. Just half a mile from the city centre, it combines city centre living with a relatively quiet location. Prices are due to be released soon for this collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.

Just outside Lancaster

Heading out towards Morecambe, but still less than four miles from the centre of Lancaster, Miller Homes has now released phase three of its Millers Green development, offering three- and four-bedroom homes with an enhanced specification, priced from £169,950 to £205,950. Situated in a quiet spot surrounded by footpaths and green recreational areas, Millers Green offers a slower pace of life a little outside of the city - and one within walking distance of the seafront at the coastal village of Heysham.
