New homes coming to former Terry’s Chocolate Works in York

For some of us, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, but if you want to take your love for the confectionary classic a little further, how about a new home on the site of the old factory which made them?
The landmark factory building in York will re-open next year as The Residence, re-developed into high-quality new homes by PJ Livesey. The Grade II listed building will be converted into unique apartments, the first of which will be released for sale early in the New Year.
PJ Livesey director Georgina Livesey says: “We wanted the name to reflect the grand nature of the building but also for the design of the branding and the marketing to pay tribute to the Art Deco style of its architecture. It was important that the re-born building distinguish itself in its new role as luxury residential, so we avoided any obvious references to chocolate in the name.
“But we did find a much subtler and more sophisticated way to acknowledge the building's history. The typeface we are using, chosen for its discreet Art Deco feel, is 'TT Chocolates' which seemed entirely appropriate to us.”
Carter Jonas have been appointed agents on the scheme, which will provide 170 new homes, with a range of apartments from one-bedroom layouts to duplex penthouses. Work is already well underway and a sales office will open early in 2016.
