Property porn alert! Ten of the best homes for sale in Wentworth and Virginia Water

Posted 30 September 2014

Last summer Virginia Water became the first district in the UK outside of London where the average property price is in excess of £1m. It’s prime stockbroker belt, a leafy corner of Surrey where the size of the plots and homes reflects the affluence of its residents.

The Wentworth Estate is luxurious even by the high standards of the rest of the district. Work on the 1,750-acre estate began in the 1920s, undertaken by Walter Tarrant, who had founded the prestigious St George’s Hill estate around a decade previously. Wentworth is considerably bigger, but started with just one golf course (now the East Course).

It has been home to actors and entertainers (Brucie, Sir Cliff, Diana Dors), rock stars (Gary Numan, a couple of Bee Gees), heads of state (General Pinochet and a number of former Far East kings), golfers (Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle, Ernie Els) and businessmen and industrialists from all over the world, though the proportion of overseas owners actually remains fairly low.

Recently, local estate agent James Wyatt, who grew up and still lives on Wentworth, took us for a tour of the area. Here are some of the best properties currently on the market in the area.
