Retirement property for sale in Shropshire

Shropshire is rightly regarded as an exceptionally lovely county that lies on the border between England and Wales. Apart from its renowned delightful scenery, it has many important towns and excellent transport links. For those looking to buy new build homes here there is plenty of activity going on throughout the county. Shropshire also has a rich, dramatic history which belies its peaceful air today. Its major towns of Shrewsbury, Telford, Oswestry, Ludlow and Bridgnorth offer something for everyone.

Telford, for example, is a town that's modern, compact and has all the amenities and facilities needed for modern living. It's centrally located and home to one of the UK's leading conference and exhibition centres. At the same time, like everywhere in Shropshire, it's surrounded by stunning countryside offering plenty of space for all kinds of leisure activities. Telford University gives good opportunities for the buy-to-let and rental market in the town. Prices for new build homes are good value with Help to Buy available on many. David Wilson Homes and Lioncourt Homes are just two housebuilders to mention here who have developments in the area.

The town of Ludlow is renowned for its dramatic Norman castle as well as its medieval streets and, more modern, Georgian architecture. Here too, new build homes are available at affordable prices. Shrewsbury is the commercial centre of the county and yet still retains its historic charm thanks to its street plan dating back to medieval times, and the stunning Shrewsbury Castle. The town has over 600 listed buildings. Even with the relatively high amount of conservation areas, these two towns as well as many others have seen new build developments happen and offer buyers stylish, modern and more traditional builds. Church Stretton, Cleobury Mortimer and  Much Wenlock are other charming towns that offer a high quality of living.

Shropshire has a wide choice of schools with Shrewsbury in particular having excellent schools including four independent schools such as Shrewsbury School of the edge of the town. Condover Church of England primary school has been rated as the best primary school in the whole of Shropshire. Comprehensive schools also get good ratings. Thomas Telford School in Telford was rated the best performing comprehensive in the country.

In terms of transport, Shropshire is just about free of motorways with only the M54 cutting across the north of the county. As a county it's quite well-connected by train. A journey from Shrewsbury to Manchester takes an hour and 15 minutes whilst from Ludlow to Manchester it takes one hour and 45 minutes. Airports at Manchester and Liverpool are also within relatively easy reach. For employment, the county has many commuters with Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham all offering major employment opportunities. Tourism remains a mainstay in terms of employment within Shropshire itself.

  Monthly Budget
Our monthly budget search provides a monthly cost estimate for the different ownership options available to you. These range from ‘outright purchase’, ‘shared ownership’ and ‘rent’ options. As with any property purchase you should seek independent financial advice.

For outright purchase the monthly mortgage cost estimate is based on an interest only mortgage at a 5.95% annual interest rate, over 25 years with a 10% deposit.

For ‘shared ownership’ the monthly cost is based on an interest only mortgage rate of 5.95% per annum over 25 years with annual interest of 2.75% on the unsold share.

For ‘rent’ the monthly cost is based on the rental from the landlord or Build to Rent organisation who owns the property.
