Ground-Breaking At Poole Apartment Development
A ground-breaking ceremony has taken place at Carters Quay, a development of 161 new build to rent homes in Poole, marking the start of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council’s (BCP Council) plans to reinvigorate the local area.
Cllr Philip Broadhead, deputy leader of BCP Council and portfolio holder for development, growth and regeneration and Sarah Longthorpe, director of regeneration, BCP Council, together with dignitaries from BCP Council, ward councillors for Hamworthy and senior staff at Inland Homes, were in attendance to celebrate kick-starting the rejuvenation of the area.
Situated between the bridges on the waterfront at Hamworthy, the council’s acquisition of the Carters Quay scheme forms part of BCP’s wider regeneration programme, investing in Poole to create a healthy, vibrant environment where people can live and work, and businesses can thrive.
Cllr Philip Broadhead said: “Regenerating Poole at pace is one of the top headlines in our Big Plan, and here we are getting started on site with exactly the sort of vibrant scheme that this waterfront deserves.
“We said we would deliver much needed homes for the community and ensure they contribute towards our wider promise to revitalise Poole. The opportunity to provide a mixed-use scheme of new homes and hospitality and retail opportunities really hits the bullseye, as we help create one of the best coastal places in the world in which to live, work, invest and play.
“I look forward to spotting the crane in the sky when I’m in the town over the next few months and seeing this priority area for our regeneration plans progress.”
BCP FuturePlaces, the council’s newly created urban regeneration company, has been working closely with specialist housebuilder and brownfield developer Inland Homes, advising on design and placemaking aspects with the mutually shared aim of completing a sustainable development with enhanced waterfront promenade and public realm at an important quayside location.
Nish Malde, group finance director at Inland Homes, added: “We are delighted to work with BCP Council to deliver these much-needed new homes and to achieve their vision of creating a sustainable, healthy and vibrant place to live. It’s wonderful to be part of this vital regeneration of Poole by constructing high-quality, sustainable homes.”
Carters Quay is anticipated to complete by the end of 2024 and will include 161 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments available for private rent through the council’s wholly owned company Seascape Homes and Property Limited.
