About The Area

Bath is a city in Somerset famous for its Roman Baths and Georgian architecture. Situated in the Avon Valley, it’s a major tourist destination with an abundance of amenities and attractions. Apart from tourism, it has particularly good employment opportunities in the creative industries. Nearby towns include Trowbridge, Chippenham, Warminster, Frome and Malmesbury. At the last census in 2011, the population of Bath was recorded as 88,859. There are also some excellent schools in and around Bath.

Transport links

There are two trains per hour to London Paddington with a journey taking approximately 90 minutes. To Bristol, it’s 15 minutes with four trains per hour. The nearest airport is Bristol, 20 miles away whilst there are coaches to Heathrow every two hours. The M4, situated just to the north, leads to London and South Wales with the A4 leading to Bristol and the A39 and A37 the main roads to the south-west.

Bath and North East Somerset Council aim to build at least 11,500 new homes in the area by 2026. Bath (including North East Somerset) has some of the fastest rising house prices in the UK. Between June 2016 and March 2017, the average value of a house rose from £308,409 to a property now being worth £333,930. With prices expected to rise further, the city offers excellent investment opportunities.

The University of Bath and Bath Spa University mean that students make up around a quarter of the city’s population giving excellent opportunities for the buy to let market. The area also been a favourite for those moving into retirement. It’s worth remembering the Help to Buy scheme is available to gain a mortgage and home ownership whether it’s for a new build house or apartment in the city.
