Could Yorkshire be the best place to live in the UK? Find out with our top reasons to consider moving to Yorkshire...

To celebrate Yorkshire Day we're taking a look at the UK's biggest and most beautiful county. From the delicious local delicacies, to the breathtaking scenery - there's no denying Yorkshire is a pretty special place to be. With that in mind we're listing five of the best things about living in Yorkshire, who knows by the end of this article you might even consider moving locally and buying a new home of your own.

House prices

There's no denying you get more bang for your buck when it comes to property in Yorkshire. Compared to much of the UK (especially London) house prices are relatively affordable, making those dreams of getting on the ladder more easily achievable. The average price of a new build starter home in Yorkshire last year was just £110,156 making it one of the most affordable regions for first-time buyers. Whilst local house prices are low, they have continued to grow steadily - making now a great time to invest in the area.

Living costs

Another reason to think about moving to Yorkshire, is that living costs are surprisingly low when compared to the rest of the country - particularly those counties down south. You'll find savings on everything from the price of a pint, to travel expenses and even the cost of a takeaway.

Delicious food

Famous for the' Yorkshire Pudding' it is a perfect area for foodies, with more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other county (outside London). Got a soft spot for good pub grub? In that respect, Yorkshire might be the best place to live in the UK - with some absolutely outstanding gastropubs.

Natural beauty

Another key benefit of living in Yorkshire is that you're only ever a few minutes away from the countryside. Due to its colossal size Yorkshire contains not just one, but two stunning national parks - the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. The area is also steeped in centuries of rich history, having been settled by the Romans, Celts and Vikings. As a result, Yorkshire boasts incredible castles and breathtaking scenery as far as the eye can see. For those who love fresh air and the great outdoors, we can think of no better a place to lay your roots than Yorkshire.

Happy and friendly folk

When it comes to making friends in the area, you needn't worry - Yorkshire locals are a famously friendly and straight-talking bunch. Unlike down in London, striking up a conversation with a stranger in Yorkshire is not seen as some kind of social faux pas. Just be prepared to be referred to as "love" or "duck" on a daily basis. When it comes to satisfaction, a survey by recruitment specialists Robert Half found workplace happiness in Yorkshire and the Humber to be the highest in the UK. The study also found that employees in Yorkshire not only find their work more interesting but  experience lower stress levels than the average British worker, if that's not a reason to think about moving locally - we don't know what is.
