The latest New Build Index from LSL Land & New Homes and e.surv show that the property markets in the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber are flagging behind many other regions.
The October Index, which looks at figures up to the end of September 2015, showed that the North East displayed the poorest growth in property prices year-on-year of any region – just 1.4%. Yorkshire and the Humber was the third weakest market with a 2.3% annual growth, separated from its neighbour only by Wales (at 1.8%).
These figures are much lower than many other regions. Even ignoring London (10.1%) and the South East (8.2%), most regions showed considerably more growth: for example, East Anglian new build prices rose 8.5%, East Midlands 5.5% and the North West 4.3%.
The good news for those who are in the market for a first new home is that the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber are two of the most affordable regions, with the average new two-bedroom home under four times the average salary.
