House-buyers in the West Country are spoilt for choice when it comes to brand new developments, including sites offering traditional houses and layouts as well as some incorporating some interesting, contemporary eco-designs.
Coincidentally, research from Barratt Homes recently found the people of the Bristol area in particular to be more a fan of ‘Do It Layer’ than ‘Do It Yourself’, suggesting that the immaculate blank canvas and low maintenance of a new build home might be far more preferable than an old house that needs work to bring it up-to-date.
Barratt Homes sales director Andrea Pilgrim says: “Our reluctance to carry out DIY is one of the reasons people opt for new homes. Living in something brand new means no repairs and no need for any remedial decorating.” The research found 44% of people saying that sprucing up the house is their biggest bugbear, with 15% saying they never found the time for home improvements.
