The vibrant city of Glasgow could be the perfect place for house-hunters to consider when buying a brand new home...

Thanks to its economic and cultural success, Glasgow has become of Britain’s largest cities and its various neighbourhoods offer a real mix of places to live and work, leading to its popularity with home-seekers of all ages and budgets.

As well as its historic buildings and suburbs, the city has seen major regeneration over the years, most recently a major project to transform the former industrial areas along the River Clyde to a thoroughly up-to-date place to live, work and have fun. New commercial premises, shops, leisure facilities and arts venues attract visitors and residents, with transport links connecting to the rest of the city and beyond.

There’s a very active residential development market in Glasgow, bringing a wide array of brand new properties to its diverse districts as well as some major new towns and communities on its fringes and into neighbouring counties. We take a look at a few of the current choices of brand new homes for sale in Glasgow.

Anchor CourtAnchor Court

Phase 2 was recently launched at Anchor Court, a development from Sanctuary Scotland in the district of Yoker, with shops and amenities conveniently located nearby. It’s a brand new collection of two-bedroom apartments set on the northern bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow and could be perfect for first-time buyers, as each property is available to purchase via New Supply Shared Equity (NSSE).

This scheme is also open to other groups of buyers, including those over 60, Armed Forces personnel and veterans, disabled people and people currently renting from the council or a housing association. It provides all the benefits of full homeownership at a discounted price. You'll pay for the biggest share – usually between 60% and 80% of the home's cost – and the Scottish government will hold the remaining share under a 'shared equity agreement', and when you sell, it will take it’s proportion of the price. At Anchor Court, ‘The Ballast’ is an apartment which can be purchased through NSSE for £76,800 for a 60% share (full market price £128,000). There’s a spacious open-plan living/dining room with adjoined kitchen, plus two bedrooms complete with built-in wardrobes and a family bathroom. This plot also includes Juliet balconies in the living/dining room on the first, second and third floor plots.

There’s limited availability at The Boulevard, but still two apartments and a terraced house to consider, with prices from £162,995. Located in Pollokshaws, close to Pollok Country Park, this development has some excellent things nearby, including the Silverburn Retail Centre, rail and bus services and access to the M77. If you’re looking for a house rather than an apartment, then ‘The Brodick’ is the final one for sale here. From£249,995, you’ll have an attractive three-storey property with a lounge leading to the kitchen/dining room, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and a second floor dedicated to the main bedroom. For a limited time, qualifying buyers can choose between a 10-month mortgage contribution deal or use a 105% Part Exchange offer.

Close to the M80 in Stepps, around eight miles north-east of the city centre, Earls Rise is a popular Barratt Homes development where starting prices range from £309,995 to £376,995 for a collection of popular three- and four-bedroom house types. The ‘Craigend’, a three-bedroom/two-bathroom detached home with single garage, comes with flooring and integrated kitchen appliances, and the detached ‘Dean’, from £376,995, comes with wardrobes to the main bedroom. It has an integral single garage, a utility room of the kitchen/diner, separate lounge and all four of its bedrooms are comfortable doubles, one with en suite. Homeowner buyers can ask about Part Exchange.

Merchants GateMerchants Gate

In the ‘garden village’ suburb of Pollokshields, for buyers over 60, the exclusive retirement development Merchants Gate from frequent WhatHouse? winner McCarthy Stone comprises 30 one-bedroom and 26 two-bedroom apartments specially designed to suit older buyers. They are secure, low-maintenance, energy-efficient private homes and residents also share some communal areas such as a lounge and gardens for socialising, and a guest suite for visitors. A 24-hour emergency call system provides peace of mind, and there’s plenty to enjoy in the local area too. Prices start at £189,000.

Westpoint Homes has sold over 60% of its Ascent development in Cathcart. It’s a collection of 55 well-specified one- and two bedroom apartments with lifts to all floors, extensive communal landscaped areas, and allocated parking for the two-bedroom properties. Prices start at £208,000.
