Barratt Homes welcomes new funding to extend Help to Buy Wales scheme

Posted 11 December 2015 by Keith Osborne

The Welsh government has pledged a further £290m to continue the Help to Buy Wales scheme, a move welcomed by Barratt Homes...

The Welsh division of national housebuilder Barratt Homes has welcomed the announcement from the principality’s housing minister Lesley Griffiths, that a further £290m has been pledged to support the Help to Buy Wales assistance scheme for another five years.

"I am pleased, to date, our Help to Buy Wales investment has given 1,784 first-time buyers the help they need to get their foot on the property ladder," said Griffiths, with the new funds supporting a further 6,000 homes up to 2021.

Barratt’s regional sales director Richard Lawson believes the news will boost the local housing market and enable many more people to secure a new home next year. Those saving for a new home have already been boosted by the launch of the Help to Buy ISA at the start of this month.

Lawson says: “Help to Buy Wales has had a really positive impact on first-time buyers and those looking to move up the housing ladder and this extension of the scheme will give even more people the chance to own their own home. With Help to Buy Wales the deposit required, one of the major factors preventing people from buying a home, is reduced. Buyers need only save a 5% deposit, which is much more achievable.’’

Barratt Homes has an array of new homes developments across South Wales where Help to Buy Wales is available on properties priced up to £300,000. All these developments are open seven days a week for visitors, on Monday from 12.30pm to 5.30pm and on Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 5.30pm.
