Show home room by room - Parklands, St Mary's Island, Chatham

Posted 19 October 2016 by Ben Salisbury

We feature two show homes this week, The Admiral and The Carrack at Parklands development from Countryside Maritime in St Mary's Island, Chatham

Two eagerly anticipated new show homes at Parklands at Azure, St Mary’s Island in Chatham, Kent are breaking the mould from the conventional nautical themed interiors expected in this unique waterside location.

Launching this month, the show homes, created by award-winning developer Countryside Maritime, have been thoughtfully designed by Phoenix Interior Design to subtly reflect the natural Kentish environment of these enviable waterside properties.

The development, which is set on the site of the former Royal Naval Dockyard in Chatham and is Britain’s only strategically planned island community, has already been met with strong demand from house buyers seeking an attractive, affordable new home in a unique and picturesque setting.  The homes are available to buy through the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.

The four bedroom, three storey Admiral house design boasts spacious, light-filled, open-plan living. On the first floor, there is a guest room with en-suite as well as two further double bedrooms and a family bathroom. It benefits from a garage and landscaped front garden.

Meanwhile, The Carrack is a luxurious three storey, five bedroom home offering flexible, open plan living space. On the ground floor the contemporary fitted kitchen and dining area opens onto a generous rear garden, whilst a separate living room is perfect for more formal entertaining.

Iain McPherson, Director of Countryside Maritime comments: “Feedback from customers confirms that show homes are seen as an integral part of any new development; they offer the purchaser a superb opportunity to make use of an interior designer’s expertise and give a real insight into the best way to maximise layout and furnish their new home. The new show homes at Azure are superb representations of what every homebuyer here can aspire to.”

Daisy Clark, Interior Designer of Phoenix Interior Design who created the show home interiors added: “Our brief was to design a modern, warm and contemporary home that would appeal to a wide range of purchasers, but particularly to families and young professionals.

Many people will expect a strong nautical theme, however we chose a palette of muted greens, golds and champagne to reflect the Kentish environment, whilst we created stronger tones of orange and navy blue to add a bold contrast. We used accessories and furniture that would offer a ‘lived in’ look and feel with well accessorised bathrooms, dressing tables, kitchen cupboards added to this effect.”

Dining room

“In The Admiral, my favourite piece is the coffee table with the Missoni style fabric covered pouffe underneath, in fact, the majority of the scheme was based around the fabric as it is a brilliant balance between luxury and comfort.”

Master bedroom

“The top floor of The Admiral offers a superb master bedroom suite with dressing area, ensuite bathroom and its own private terrace.  The Carrack’s impressive master bedroom has its own dressing area and ensuite whilst two further bedrooms, one with ensuite.”

Kitchen

“The contemporary kitchen at The Admiral is of the highest quality, featuring sleek handleless base and wall units, dark mountain oak laminate worktops and equipped with a range of quality, integrated appliances including a wine chiller and recycling bins.”

“In The Carrack, the horn base table lamp in the snug bedroom on the top floor fits within the environment and the contrast of the modern lamp sitting on top of it is a quirky touch.”

Situated to the north of the unique 150-acre island, the homes sit on the edge of this sustainable community with everything still within easy walking distance, including doctors’ surgery, community centre, church and primary school. Approximately 20 acres of open space have also been incorporated into the island’s design, linked by footpaths and cyclepaths.

Residents at Azure can also enjoy a diverse range of bars, restaurants and other amenities in Jetty 5. In addition, there is also a great range of facilities at the Dockside Outlet Shopping Centre adjacent to the bridge leading onto the island, including a pub, supermarket and over 70 retail outlets. Other restaurants, shops and leisure activities including a multiplex cinema are all within easy reach.
