Family benefit from Lifetime Homes features at Hollygate Park

Posted 24 May 2017 by Helen Christie

A couple with a disabled daughter have benefitted from the Lifetime Homes features at David Wilson Homes’ development Hollygate Park in Cotgrave...

The homes at Hollygate Park are all built to meet the criteria of Lifetime Homes. This means they have been designed to be suitable for residents throughout different milestones in their lives, as they have been uniquely planned to last homeowners a lifetime.

Andy and Emma Bentley came across the development when they were looking to move closer to family. The property was ideal for them, because it would accommodate their daughter Lola, 9, who is severely disabled and uses a wheelchair.

Lifetime Homes are ordinary homes which must meet 16 design criteria, including an accessible bathroom, approaches to entrances (either level or on a gentle slope) and wide parking spaces. The downstairs bathroom is wheelchair accessible and can easily be adapted into a wet room, meaning Lola can live on the ground floor of the home, and there are already sockets in place by the staircase if the family decide to put a stair lift in.

Lifetime Homes features at Hollygate Park include:

  • Wider doorways and well-designed rooms and hallways to allow for access and ease of movement, ideal for wheelchair users and families with young children.
  • Provision to install a stair lift or through-the-floor lift, as well as ceilings with the capability to support hoists, allowing for access between bedrooms and bathrooms for those with reduced mobility.
  • Downstairs spaces planned to ensure anyone unable to use the stairs can live comfortably on the ground floor for a period of time. This downstairs cloakroom also has the potential to be adapted with showering facilities and grab rails if this looks to be a longer term solution.
  • Service controls including electrical switches and sockets, TV, telephone, computer points, central heating thermostat and mains water stop taps at a height and distance easily reachable for people with low mobility.

Andy says: “When we chose the home we knew that we would have to plan for Lola’s disability and be prepared if her condition was to deteriorate.

“The Lifetime Homes features are massively helpful to us because we’re aware of how expensive making adaptions to your home can be and this is something we needed to consider. Lola is already benefitting from the larger doorways which allow her to get in and out of the home and the downstairs bathroom which makes it much easier for everyone as she doesn’t have to go upstairs.

Bibi, Lola and Juno“One of the main reasons we chose Hollygate Park was because of the fantastic location next to the country park and the fact that there is great schooling in the area, which was a big thing for us to consider when moving home for our other daughters Bibi, 10, and Juno, 7.”

The family downsized from a larger four-bedroom home to their current home as they also wanted something that was easier to maintain and more energy efficient. They were also attracted to buying a new build property because it needed no DIY work doing to it and it was ready to move into straight away.

Jason Hearn, sales director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, says: “The Lifetime Homes features are designed to be future proof, so they’re perfect for families like the Bentley’s that may have to adapt their home in the future and we are delighted to hear that they have settled into the development.

“Here at David Wilson Homes we have taken building homes one step further and crafted these properties to consider people in wheelchairs and those with prams who may normally struggle with accessibility in a home. The stunning homes at our Hollygate Park development can prove to be a great investment as they could last anyone a lifetime.”

The development is conveniently just a short 20-minute drive into Nottingham city centre and is also close both the A46 and A52 which offer great links to Leicester and Derby.

The area also boasts local sought-after primary schools, a range of shops and the Grantham Canal nearby, so as well as good road links for commuters it’s the ideal location for a range of homebuyers.

Hollygate Park currently has a selection of four- and five-bedroom homes available to reserve with prices starting from £368,995.
