Posted 21 January 2021 by Keith Osborne

Impressive collections of open market and Shared Ownership apartments are coming to the well-served coastal town...

House-hunters in Southend-on-Sea now have a host of brand new properties to consider with the launch of two developments there.

The much-loved Essex resort town is just an hour from London by rail on two National Rail lines. The A127 and A13 both head towards the capital and the M25 is only 35 minutes away. Southend Airport is only a couple of miles outside the town.

Residents have a host of shops across two large shopping malls and a pedestrianised main shopping street, with a wide mix of chain stores and independent boutiques. For those who like to shop fresh, a weekly market and a twice-monthly farmer’s market also take place on the High Street, offering lots of organic produce and unique gifts. The town centre, also has a great selection of restaurants, wine bars and pubs.

Weston Homes has launched a new £52.8 million (GDV) residential-led development in Southend-on-Sea, which includes 217 apartments. Named Victoria Central, due to its location on the southern end of Victoria Avenue and just a three-minute walk from Southend Victoria station, it offers a collection of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments complete with a landscaped courtyard, entrance foyer and 275m² of ground floor commercial space.

Prices start from £185,000, £218,500 and £285,000 respectively for a one-, two- or three-bedroom apartment. All come complete with tiled floors to bathrooms, carpets to bedrooms and oak strip wood flooring throughout the rest of the apartment, in a choice of various finishes. Kitchens, in a choice of units and worktops, come fully fitted with a complete range of appliances. LED lighting is provided under the wall units and there is even an instant boiling water tap provided. Bathrooms and en suites have digitally controlled smart taps, smart mirrors with LED lighting, shaver socket, digital clock and de-mist mirror as well as smart showers and baths.

Suzanne Aplin, sales and marketing director at Weston Homes, commented: “Weston Homes has a long history of building new homes in Southend-on-Sea, and we are thrilled to have launched Victoria Central, our latest collection of beautifully designed and finished apartments. Victoria Central provides a fantastic opportunity to live right in the heart of this popular seaside town, whilst being the most perfect location near Southend Victoria for commuters into London.”

The development will be a 15-storey, striking brick and glass façade building with glass-fronted balustrades and a raised glazed ground floor. The development has a seven-storey rear wing and the landscaped courtyard features timber decking, stone-bordered plant beds and semi-mature trees. A number of communal rooftop terraces are also available for residents to socialize or simply enjoy the fantastic views over the seaside town. The seafront is an eight-minute drive away.

Edward Robinson, partner in the New Homes team at selling agent Knight Frank, added: “The ‘escape to the country’ trend dominated 2020, but the ‘return to normality’ drive will certainly take precedence this year. That said, Covid-19 has shaken up what people want from their homes – buyers this year will be looking for those golden locations that offer an abundance of space and a quick commute. With Southend-on-Sea’s fast rail connections into central London and excellent property prices, it’s becoming incredibly popular.”

Richmond HouseRichmond House from Notting Hill Genesis

On Saturday 23 January, Notting Hill Genesis launches Richmond House, which offers a range of Shared Ownership apartments. The one- and two-bedroom homes are situated within the popular Southend suburb of Westcliff-on-Sea and just a 10-minute walk from Southend Victoria station. The seafront and shops are also just a few minutes away.

James Munson, head of marketing for Notting Hill Genesis, commented: “We are very much looking forward to the forthcoming launch of Richmond House. Essex is a fantastic location for living, working and still being able to reach London within an hour – something that many homebuyers are keen to capitalise on at this moment in time. Working lifestyles have been turned upside down, and whilst for some it has been difficult to adapt, for many this has provided a valuable opportunity to press a reset button in the knowledge that they no longer need to be within a 30-minute travel time to the city in order to do their job. Richmond House is a perfect option for young professionals seeking an affordable property in a vibrant new location with plenty to offer on the doorstep.”

Set within a striking six-storey building, every Shared Ownership apartment at Richmond House features a high-quality specification. The design incorporates floor-to-ceiling windows which create light-filled rooms throughout, and layouts are spacious and open-plan. The kitchen in the open-plan living space is in a contemporary graphite grey palette and comes complete with a range of integrated Zanussi and Hotpoint appliances. Bathrooms are finished with brushed chrome fixtures and fittings. Selected homes feature access to a private balcony or garden from the living area, and a selected two-bedroom apartments also come with an en suite to the master bedroom.

Notting Hill Genesis’ Shared Ownership scheme offers potential purchasers a more affordable way onto the property ladder. The one-and two-bedroom apartments at Richmond House give buyers the chance to purchase a smaller share of a property, usually between 25 and 75%, paying a subsidised rent on the remainder. Buyers can increase their share at any time, provided they can afford to do so, all the way up to 100% and outright ownership.

Prices at Richmond House start from £54,625 for a 25% share of a two-bedroom Shared Ownership apartment (based on a full market value of £218,500). Find out more at www.nhgsales.com.
