About The Area

Skipton was voted the ‘Best Place to Live’ by the Sunday Times in 2014. Take a walk down the High Street and explore its hidden alleyways and you’ll see why. Skipton won the top spot for a number of things: its idyllic location, vibrant community, top class schools, its 900 year old castle, the general quality of life, a high street dominated by independent shops and cafes and its low crime rate.

Skipton has managed to retain its old world charm. One of our favourite parts of the town is the Craven Court Shopping Centre which was once a 16th Century Theatre.

The Leeds-Liverpool Canal runs directly through Skipton, making Skipton a hub for canalboat enthusiasts, but is also a great place to walk your dog. Skipton Woods is a another favourite of locals for doing just that.

Skipton has two ‘outstanding’ secondary schools: Skipton Girls High School and Ermysted’s Grammar School, as well as some great primary schools.

Skipton is ideally placed for exploring the rest of Yorkshire. The villages of Bolton Abbey, Gargrave and Grassington are only a short drive away and offer visitors walks, beautiful scenery and independent shops. The cities of Leeds, Bradford and Manchester can all be reached in under two hours by car. Skipton is also served by a train station which connects Skipton to Bradford, Carlisle and Leeds.

What Is Shared Ownership?

Shared Ownership is a government-backed scheme to help people who cannot afford to buy a suitable home on the open market. It allows them to buy a share of a property (25% to 75% initially) and pay a subsidised rent on the balance, which should be cheaper than buying or renting at full price.
