There are a number of excellent dining inns dotted around the local moorside villages, including The Black Ladd, The Kings Arms and The Roebuck Inn. The Asian flavours of Blue Tiffin on Laurel Trading Estate are very popular, as are the Turkish and Mediterranean styles of Istanblue in Royton.
Oldham has over 250 places to eat listed on TripAdvisor, with Zaraks Grill Lounge, Stocco Restaurant, La Via and The Old Bill leading the way, with Italian restaurants La bella Italian and Mazzo close behind.

Education

With such inspiring scenery all around you, it would be a shame to spend your school run in the car, and at Saddleworth View you won’t have to. Younger pupils have a choice of two ‘good’ rated primary schools, Hodge Clough Primary and St Theresa’s, both within walking distance, along with the ‘outstanding’ rated St Thomas Moorside CofE Primary, which is also just three quarters of a mile away.
For older pupils, The Blue Coat School in nearby Oldham is rated ‘outstanding’ with The Oldham Academy North rated ‘good’. Closer to home, Waterhead Academy is just half a mile away on Huddersfield Road.
The many universities and colleges of Manchester are also within easy reach for stay at home students who want to save on accommodation costs.

Leisure

With Oldham so close, you’ll never be short of something to do. The town has two theatres, Oldham Coliseum and the Lyceum Theatre, as well as an Odeon multiplex cinema and much more besides. The Playhouse at Shaw also offers a great range of entertainment.
For the more active, Oldham Leisure centre has superb sports facilities, or you can try your luck around Crompton and Royton or Saddleworth golf courses. Moordale has its own cricket and bowls club, or if you fancy something less traditional, you can head for the Extreme Air trampoline park, Lockdown escape rooms or Manchester Paintball, all available in Oldham.
With the moors stretching from your door, there’s plenty for outdoor enthusiasts, including walks around Strinesdale Reservoir. For even more open space and scenery, the Peak District National Park is just a short drive away to the east.

Shopping

There is an excellent choice of shopping to be found in Oldham, from traditional markets to modern malls. The town centre is pedestrianised, creating several streets of shops and stores centred around the Spindles Town Square shopping centre. Oldham is also home to the historic Tommyfield Market, which is open daily, except Sunday, with over 110 stalls to browse and buy. You’ll also find fresh meat and veg at Curzon Street market, every Friday and Saturday, to set you up for the weekend.
If you prefer out of town shopping, try the Elk Mill Retail Park, on the edge of Oldham between the town and the development.
For a more extensive shopping trip, head into Manchester, where you’ll find flagship stores from all the major names, as well as a huge range of quirky independents in and around the famous Arndale Centre.

Transport

Moorside is just two miles north east of Oldham and ten miles north east of Manchester. Rochdale, at seven miles, and Huddersfield, at around fifteen miles are also easy to get to. The M62 is just six miles away and the M60 Manchester Orbital is just four miles, both opening up the extensive northern motorway network.
Oldham is served by Manchester’s Metrolink trams, with regular services into the heart of the city. Trams can be accessed just outside of town at Oldham Mumps and take around half an hour. If you prefer the train, Greenfield Station is around three miles away and has services to Manchester Piccadilly in just twenty five minutes.
Manchester Airport is just over twenty miles away, with Leeds Bradford Airport just over thirty miles, both easily accessible by motorway links.
