Amenities

Hedera Gardens is within walking distance of the town, where you’ll find all the shops and services you need, including a large Morrisons supermarket.

For GPs, register with Market Hill Surgery, less than half a mile away (Sat Nav SG8 9JN, call 0300 234 5555) or for dentists, try Royston Dental Suite, one of several practices on the High Street (Sat Nav SG8 9AA, call 01763 244805)

Dining

Royston has a great selection of eateries, ranging from historic pubs, such as The Green Man, The Old Bull Inn, The Fox and Duck and The Jolly Postie, to modern restaurants such as the Thai Rack @ The Glass House, Cira Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant and the Asian flavours of Yuva Fine Fusion and Ashiana Spice. The kids will enjoy a family treat at Domino’s Pizza in the town centre.

Education

Royston operates a three-tier education system, with a selection of infant and junior schools feeding the town’s main high school. Closest to the development is Studlands Rise First School, which is rated ‘good with outstanding personal development’ by Ofsted. Alternatives include St Mary’s Catholic Primary, which is also rated ‘good’, along with Icknield Walk First School and St Mary’s Catholic School, both of which are rated as ‘outstanding’. The Greenway Middle School is the next step up, rated ‘good’, with Meridian High School and 6th Form catering for 13-18 year olds in the town, also rated ‘good’. Alternative third tier education can be found in the nearby villages, with Bassingbourne Village College and Melbourne Village College both rated ‘good’.

The famous colleges of Cambridge are just a short train ride away, with several other top universities also within reach for stay-at-home students.

Leisure

Royston is an active town with plenty to do in your spare time. You’ll find a huge range of sports on offer, from rugby and football to archery and golf. The town also has two sports centres at The Heath and Royston Leisure Centre.

For evening entertainment visit the Royston Picture Palace, or head to Cambridge for a huge range of theatres and concert halls, including the famous Footlights, showcasing the stars of the future. Royston itself hosts a popular Arts Festival every October, bringing a raft of culture to the town.

For a day out with a difference, take a walk on the wild side at Shepreth Wildlife Park, or reach for the skies at the American Air Museum at Duxford. And don’t miss a visit to the fascinating Royston Cave, a mysterious medieval bolt hole carved into the rock beneath the town centre that is full of intricate carvings.

Shopping

Royston High Street is just a short walk from Hedera Gardens and is home to a range of major names such as Boots and WH Smith. To avoid the town centre, try the brand new Royston Gateway Retail Park where you’ll find the likes of Aldi and an M&S Foodhall.

Royston has held a regular market in the town since 1189, and bargains can still be found in the Market Hall every Wednesday and Saturday.

For larger shopping centres, try Garden Square in Letchworth, Westgate in Stevenage or head to Cambridge for The Grafton Centre and The Grand Arcade as well as plenty of quirky independent shops aimed at the student market.

Transport

Hedera Gardens lies just off the main A10 and close to the A505, with the A1(M) and M11 both just a short drive away. Cambridge is around 14miles, Letchworth is 9miles, Bishop’s Stortford is 19miles, Bedford is 25miles and Central London is just 45miles away.

Royston Station, under a mile from the development, has regular trains to Cambridge in just 15minutes and direct services to London King’s Cross or St Pancras in under an hour.

For holidays, business trips and well-earned weekends away, both Luton and Stansted airports are only 25miles away.
