About the Development

Amenities

Alconbury Weald has its own community shop, where you’ll find newspapers and day to day groceries, and the shopping facilities on site will grow with the development. You’ll also find a small selection of shops in Alconbury and Little Stukeley, plus Waitrose and Tesco Extra supermarkets in nearby Huntingdon.

A dedicated health centre is planned as part of the development, but meanwhile, residents can find GPs at Alconbury Surgery on School Lane (Sat Nav PE28 4EQ call 01480 890281) and dentists at The Anchor Dental Centre in Huntingdon (Sat Nav PE29 7HN, call 01480 418558)

Dining

The Cambridgeshire countryside is peppered with fine gastro-pubs in charming villages. Trip Advisor rates The Cock in Hemingford Grey, The Mermaid in Ellington and the Pheasant Inn in Huntingdon amongst the best, along with the Barley Mow and the Crown Inn, also in Huntingdon.

For traditional restaurants, Alex’s Café Restaurant (Mediterranean), The Abbot’s Elm Restaurant (European) and the Old Bridge Restaurant (British/European) all come highly recommended in the town.

Education

The development has its own brand new primary school that opened for new pupils in September 2016. It will eventually have a choice of three primary schools on the site, along with its own secondary school, opening for the 2019/20 school year.

Alternatively, you can choose the OFSTED ‘good’ rated local primary school, Alconbury CofE Primary, or one of several primary schools in Huntingdon, such as St John’s Primary, which is also rated ‘good’.

Secondary pupils can choose the impressive Hinchingbrooke School, set in the historic buildings and grounds of Hinchingbrooke House.

Leisure

There’s plenty to do already at Alconbury Weald, with sports clubs and societies based at the new primary school, and a thriving social scene based around the café and gym at The Club.

Further afield, you’ll find a choice of sports and activities at One Leisure in Huntingdon, as well as a full programme of National Hunt jump racing at Huntingdon Racecourse.

For evening entertainment, try the multi-screen Cineworld in Huntingdon, or take in some culture with Shakespeare at The George, or the Performing Arts Centre in the grounds of Hinchingbrooke House.

Shopping

Huntingdon’s flagship Chequers Court Shopping Centre is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, creating a brand new, modern shopping experience, anchored by three major stores. The 100,000sq ft expansion plan will also create 700 parking spaces in the centre of the town.

For a more comprehensive shopping experience, visit the Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough or choose from the Grand Arcade, Grafton Centre or Lion Yard in Cambridge.

Transport

Aloconbury lies close to the intersection of the north/south A1(M) and the east/west A14, providing easy access in all directions. Peterborough and Cambridge are both around 20miles drive, with Northampton 38miles and London around 75miles.

The centre of Huntingdon in just a few minutes drive away, where you’ll find Huntingdon Station, with over 740 park and ride spaces. Trains to London take just 54minutes, with services every 10minutes in peak times, while Peterborough is just 16minutes in the other direction.

To make commuting even easier, the development will ultimately get its own station, Alconbury Weald, as part of a major investment in the East Coast Mainline.
