Well-designed for modern living with a mixture of house types to suit first time buyers, professionals, couples, families and those wishing to downsize, there really is something for everyone at The Fairways.

Named 'The Fairways' because of its location on an old golf club, this development has stunning countryside, walks and adventures right on your doorstep. Situated to the west of Standish The Fairways is conveniently located between the towns of Wigan and Chorley, which are only a short drive away and provide a large range of shops and amenities. Standish itself is a bustling village; home to St Wilfred's Church, the only Grade I listed building in the borough. The old stocks are also still in situ in the village at Market Square (rogues beware).

The Fairways offers great days out

A short drive away, Mesnes Park in Wigan is described as 'A jewel nestled on the edge of Wigan town centre.' A great family day out, it's also home to Ernest Gillick's statue of Sir Francis Powell. It's said that rubbing the foot of this statue will bring you good luck' Another local day out can be enjoyed at Haigh Hall Country Park. Spanning hundreds of acres and including shops and cafeteria, it's a fabulous place to while away some restful hours with family and friends.

The area is also rich in history with the town of Wigan and its Pier made famous by the author George Orwell who compiled his investigation on working class life for his book, The Road to Wigan Pier. More recently, The Heritage Lottery Fund helped rescue and restore the Trencherfield Mill Steam Engine, which is more that 100 years old and powered the cotton spinning mill, which is located on the Leeds and Liverpool canal.

Keen golfers among you will be relieved to know that the old golf course on which The Fairways is built has been superseded by further excellent golfing facilities close by. Wigan Golf Club is a delightful, yet challenging, 18-hole parkland course only 1.7 miles away, and Gathurst Golf Club, which boasts panoramic views at almost every hole, is just 3.4 miles.

Locally there are general convenience stores, post office, and takeaways. Towards Wigan town centre you will find Robin Park retail park with a number of large retailers such as Next and Argos. The town centre itself has The Grand Arcade, a modern shopping mall, along with more traditional shops at The Galleries.

There are two train stations in Wigan town centre, making travel to Manchester, Liverpool and London very accessible. Buses run regularly from the main road into the town centre.

And with the M6 only a few minutes drive away, the development is ideally situated for commuters.

For sports fans, the DW Stadium is home to the Wigan Warriors RLFC and Wigan Athletic FC, the FA cup winners in 2013.

Wigan town centre boasts the recently-built Wigan Life Centre with its Olympic-size swimming baths and gym facilities.

Other places of interest include Three Sisters with its racing track and tranquil setting for walks, canoeing and course fishing. Leisure activities such as cinemas and bowling are only a short drive away.

Wigan and Leigh Infirmary is only a few minutes drive from the development. There are also various pharmacies, dental practices and medical centres within a short distance from the site

Within close proximity of the development there are a number of well-respected nurseries, primary and secondary schools. Wigan also has several sixth forms and colleges, most notably Winstanley College which was named the ???Sunday Times Sixth Form of the Year' in 2012.
