Local Roots
The village of Steventon dates back over a thousand years, and features many buildings of great antiquity. The most celebrated reminder of the past is the mile-long Causeway, a pathway running from the Village Green to the church. Around 800 years old, the Causeway is still maintained by a charitable trust dating back to around 1620.

The Gables is close to a traditional bakery, and the village has a Co-op food store with a post office and dry cleaners, a hairdresser, a sandwich shop and a popular Indian restaurant, all just a pleasant five-minute stroll away. There is also a general store in Drayton, around a mile away, and a wide selection of high street names and supermarkets in nearby Abingdon.

Didcot Parkway station, four miles east of the village, operates main line services to London Paddington, a journey of around 50 minutes, as well as to Bristol and South Wales. Didcot is also on the Reading to Oxford route, with the trip to Oxford taking just over a quarter of an hour. Express buses between Oxford and Didcot via Abingdon town centre stop close to The Gables.

Education & Health
Pre-school provision in Steventon includes the Tiny Toes Day Nursery, a few yards from The Gables, and the village’s primary school, St Michael’s, offers a wide choice of after-school clubs. Pupils normally move on to the John Mason School in Abingdon for secondary education. GP services in the area include the Marcham Road Health Centre in Abingdon.

Village Life & Further Afield
Steventon’s three traditional pubs include the North Star, a Grade II listed building with a celebrated heritage interior. There are several clubs and societies in the village, and the Village Hall is a popular venue for local events. Steventon also has an annual music festival. There is a five-screen Cineworld cinema in Didcot, and the choice of live entertainment in Abingdon includes drama and music at the Unicorn Theatre. Didcot Leisure Centre includes a swimming pool, spin room, squash court and sports hall.

Recycling Facilities
There are recycling bins for glass and paper at The Fox Inn, and a large recycling centre in Drayton that accepts white goods, TVs and electronic equipment, clothes, garden waste and most other household items. Both locations are within around half a mile of The Gables.
