Set in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, Stokesley is a small market town which charms its visitors with elegant streets, handsome thoroughfares and an abundance of beautiful listed buildings. The central marketplace is known locally as The Plain, and has traded since medieval times. A popular weekly market is held every Friday, with a bustling farmers market taking place on the first Saturday of every month.

Stokesley contains no less than four buildings of special historical interest as well as plenty of fine examples of listed architecture. The town has several churches, including the ancient St Peter & St Paul Parish church, which stands on a site of worship dating back over a thousand years. Other historical interests include The Mill Wheel, a preserved water wheel dating from around 1850, which commemorates a former mill site, originally recorded in the Domesday Book.

Stokesley can also boast a number of present-day pleasures, like a fine selection of restaurants, gastropubs and eateries; with five good pubs in the town alone. You'll find many popular supermarkets, shops and other amenities like a library, leisure centre, pharmacies and a health centre. There are also a number of specialist stores and stylish boutiques to entice the most discerning shopper. Stokesley lies close to the picturesque village of Great Ayton, on the foothills of the beautiful North York Moors, where you can enjoy many wonderful walks, taking in the curiously shaped hill of Roseberry Topping and the tall windswept monument to Captain Cook.

Stokesley has hourly bus routes which effectively serve the local area, including routes to Middlesbrough and Whitby. There's also a train station in nearby Great Ayton.
