Lockdown Move From West Midlands To West Country

Jan thought her move to Devon was turning to dust but she had underestimated Cavanna Homes' Sarah Bowden...

Retired lawyer Jan Lewis thought that her move from rural Warwickshire to a dream home in Devon was turning to dust when the Covid-19 lockdown was announced, but she had underestimated the ingenuity of Cavanna Homes sales advisor Sarah Bowden.

She was so impressed by the ‘Buckingham’ house type on her first visit to the Cavanna @ Wolborough Hill development in Newton Abbot that she reserved it right away, but feared that lockdown would delay her relocation.

“After the Prime Minister’s announcement, I spoke to Sarah and she was brilliant. We worked together to make sure the completion would still go ahead as planned on 23 April,” recalled Jan who was living in rented accommodation at the time, having already sold her rural Warwickshire cottage. During this time, I was in close contact with Sarah and valued her help and opinion. We were unable to get the carpet I’d originally chosen, but Sarah helped me pick a second choice over WhatsApp, so when I moved in rooms were beautifully carpeted. They even laid temporary vinyl in the wet rooms for me until those I’d selected previously were available.”

Jan enlisted the help of a family-run removal company who were able to work together and transport her belongings out of storage to her new home in Devon, which as a new build was classed as a ‘clean house’ as no-one had lived there before, making the process easier.

“My moving-in day was very different to how I’d anticipated it would be,” Jan remarked. “Sarah greeted me with the keys, but due to health and safety restrictions in place, she was unable to come in and do the handover. However, I was welcomed with a lovely card and a hamper of tasty goodies, which was a nice touch.

“Andy Sykes, the firm’s head of construction even popped in one day in protective gear to talk me through the Nest heating controls and Sarah was always at the end of the phone.

“When the site manager Gary Gregory returned to work, he made a point of coming to introduce himself and welcoming me to Wolborough Hill – they’ve all been very good!

“This is such a fantastic location – I can walk into Newton Abbot town centre and I’m close to the sea and surrounded by countryside. My friends have already started to make bookings to come and visit!”

Sales adviser Sarah Bowden, said: “We’re so pleased to welcome Jan to our new community at Cavanna @ Wolborough Hill, particularly after her big move during lockdown! We have a stunning selection of homes at Cavanna @ Wolborough Hill which has a new play park for children and a tennis court coming soon, exclusively for the residents. If anyone is interested in moving to this wonderful location in Newton Abbot, please get in touch.”
