Young, fast-growing Bradford offers plenty of potential for new homes buyers

Posted 17 January 2014

The city of Bradford in West Yorkshire has the youngest, fastest-growing population outside London according to Invest in Yorkshire, and is home to just under 300,000 people. House buyers there will enjoy easy access to the nearby city of Leeds, too, as well as to all of the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

As the first UNESCO City of Film, Bradford also boasts attractions such as the National Media Museum, Bradford City Park, the Alhambra theatre and Cartwright Hall. And with the M606 (a spur off the M62) linking the city with the national motorway network, and the railway station offering frequent services to destinations such as Leeds, York, Halifax, Manchester, Blackpool, Huddersfield and London Kings Cross, Bradford is also well-connected.

Coming soon about two-and-a-half miles from Bradford's centre in the village of Odsal, Persimmon Homes' Rooley Park will offer a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes. Several purchase incentive schemes are available, appealing to a wide range of buyers. These include 95% NewBuy mortgages; 100% Part Exchange; and the Help to Buy scheme, enabling buyers to move with a deposit of just 5%, a mortgage of 75%, and the remaining 20% provided by a government equity loan (interest-free for the first five years in England and Wales).

Roughly midway between the city centres of Bradford (four miles) and Leeds (six miles), the market town of Pudsey is very handy for commuters - while it is also perfect for house-hunters who would rather escape city life but still be close to amenities such as schools, shops and doctors' surgeries. Bellway Homes' Wellesley Grange development in the popular Uppermoor area of Pudsey incorporates 81 traditional homes of three and four bedrooms, priced from £199,995 to £299,995. As a special January sale offer, Plot 7 the ‘Embsay' is now £279,995 (was £289,995) and available with Part Exchange, including integrated white goods, carpets, ceramic floor tiling, curtains, light fittings and turf worth up to £21,000.

Also in Pudsey, David Wilson Homes has created Royal Gardens, a range of quality one- to five-bedroom homes in cul-de-sac settings separated by pleasant public open spaces. Built in a variety of styles with a choice of traditional or modern layouts, and priced from £239,995, the homes are in a handy spot within walking distance of Pudsey's town centre, the bus and train stations, health centres and many other amenities.

In a semi-rural location just under seven miles from central Bradford and 13 miles from Leeds, Ben Bailey's Cotton Fields incorporates a range of family homes including townhouses, semis and detached properties (prices on application). Set in the lovely, well-established village of Scholes, which is home to a good range of amenities, there are open fields to three sides of the development. About half-a-mile down the road from Cotton Fields is David Wilson Homes' Cricketers View, incorporating a choice of two- to five-bedroom homes priced from £164,995. The properties are set in cul-de-sacs arranged around a park, which in turn leads to green space and fields along with the local cricket ground at one side.
