Weston-super-Mare offers fantastic choice for families

Posted 21 July 2014 by Keith Osborne

The family-friendly resort town of Weston-super-Mare, famous for its sandy beaches and recently transformed promenade, has a superb range of brand new homes available to suit families with children.

Situated just off the M5 motorway, the town is within commuting distance of Bristol, Taunton and Exeter, and has heaps of amenities to cater for families.

One very central housing development is Bellway Homes' Mendip Gate, which is made up of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes priced from £167,995 to £237,995, and available with Help to Buy. In a popular residential spot, close to two excellent primary schools and two equally popular secondary schools, the development is ideal for families with school-aged children, and the centre of town is only a ten-minute walk away. For commuters, buses pass Mendip Gate every half an hour; the M5 is a five-minute drive away; and the station is a short walk away, with regular trains to Bristol Temple Meads in 30 minutes.

Less than three miles from the centre and close to many local amenities, Persimmon Homes' Sycamore Chase forms part of the new community of Haywood Village. With a choice of two- to five-bedroom homes priced from £168,000, and views of the Mendip Hills, these homes offer easy access both to the town centre and the M5. In the same location, Charles Church also has a development called The Grove, incorporating a collection of luxury two- to five-bedroom homes priced from £168,000, with Part Exchange and the Help to Buy scheme available.

At St Modwen Homes' popular Locking Parklands development about four miles from the centre of Weston-super-Mare, homes are selling fast at The Woodlands, the current phase. Situated in a tranquil spot sandwiched between mature woodlands and open parkland, The Woodlands incorporates three-, four- and five-bedroom link-detached and detached homes priced from £239,950 - with a range of purchase assistance schemes to cater for buyers in different circumstances. Offering high internal specifications and large windows to give a real sense of space and light, the homes are built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, meaning they are 25% more energy efficient than current building regulations require. Outside, parks and a play area make it an ideal setting for families with children, while all the entertainment of Weston-super-Mare and its beaches are only a ten-minute drive away.

In the suburb of West Wick, also about four miles from the centre of town, Bloor Homes has a selection of traditionally-styled two-, three- and four-bedroom terraced, semi detached and detached homes at Weston Gateway. Priced from £149,950 to £272,950, once again these properties are energy efficient and in a great location for commuters - close to junction 21 of the M5, and with a railway connection at nearby Worle Parkway. For buyers Lisa and partner Atif, who have purchased a three-bedroom ‘Oxbridge' house type there, it was the home's layout that convinced them it was the right choice for their lifestyle. Impressed by the lounge and separate kitchen on the ground floor, and the spacious master bedroom suite occupying the entire second floor, Atif says: "literally as soon as we walked through the front door we knew that this was it".
