Stafford borough council recently approved a masterplan which will see 2,200 new homes built to the west of Stafford, part of a longer-term aim of providing 7,000 new homes in the borough by 2031.
The Burleyfields Masterplan Framework will see large areas of land between Stafford Castle and Doxey developed over several years through a series of smaller, individual planning applications.
In addition to the new homes, the masterplan contains provision for new community facilities and infrastructure including a new primary school, shops, businesses, health and community facilities, open spaces and recreational facilities.
The scheme has been designed to give priority to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport but will also provide a connection to the road network via the Stafford Western Access Route and Newport Road.
A little further out, The Sunday Times recently named the market town of Eccleshall one of it 50 Best Place to Live, one of only seven places in the Midlands region to make it to the list. The town, seven miles northwest of Stafford, scored highly in the selection criteria, which included crime rates, house prices, school performance and overall quality of life. It’s largely Georgian High Street is a conservation area, there is a regular farmers’ market and the townspeople hold a major biennial festival .
