Recent figures from the Halifax indicated that two Leicestershire areas, Melton and Harborough, have been among the best-performing districts in the UK in respect of property price rises. They saw average house prices increase by more than earnings in 2013 and 2014, with gains in excess of earnings by £9,358 and £6,938 respectively.

Knight Frank highlighted another town in the county where property values have soared in recent year. With house prices up 23% on six years ago, Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a real property hotspot within the county. It has a ruined 12th-century castle and used to be a centre for leather-making before adopting a new identity as a popular spa town.

New homes are very much in demand in Leicestershire. The government recently announced a £9.4m deal to kick-start a 4,200-home development at New Lubbesthorpe, near Leicester will provide 4,200 homes as well as shops, schools and a health centre. A further 1,500 new homes have been approved for a site northwest of Market Harborough, to take shape over the next 10 to 15 years.
