Recent figures published by Lloyds Bank showed Hull is one of the most affordable cities in the UK for property, with the average price just under five times average salary (the ratio for the least affordable city, Oxford, was 11 times). With over 22,000 students enrolled at the University of Hull, there is a buoyant rental market for investors.

The city and Humberside area suffered greatly with the demise of the shipping and fishing industries in the latter part of the 20th century, but there is optimism for a long-overdue renaissance for the area.
