Top of the Props: Our pick of the best new homes for sale in Derbyshire

Posted 17 April 2015 by Keith Osborne

Derbyshire provides a great example of how our national landscape adapts to reflect the way that our economy and way of life changes over the years.

The Burton Mail said recently: “Whether you are an old age pensioner or a youngster heading off to school, there can be no doubt about the mammoth changes that have taken place in South Derbyshire in the past few years. Long gone are the days where mining was king across the district, now replaced by industry, retail and a vast range of other booming trades. Thousands of houses have now replaced unwanted and ugly landscapes and the area continues to be one of the fastest growing in the entire country.”

Across the county as a whole, Land Registry data for 2014 shows prices continued to recover towards their 2007 peak. On average, prices rose between 4% and 6% from 2013 to 2014, but are still around 11% short of where they were at the top of that booming market. Forecasters are predicting rises of 2%-3% in Derbyshire in 2015.

Richmond Villages – Richmond Aston-on-Trent

Once completed, Richmond Aston-on-Trent will provide 125 homes for those over 55, and an additional 60 care home beds.

The new £30 million development will be within easy reach of the M1 and some seven miles south east of Derby. It will initially comprise 47 village apartments offering an independent lifestyle – one- and two-bedroom apartments (with the average size of a two-bedroom property being 1,100 sq ft), 30 village suites (one- and two-bedroom) which come with a ‘hotel style’ package to help with all daily chores, and a care home providing nursing and dementia care.

Paddy Brice, managing director of Richmond Villages: “We know from the waiting list for properties at our other villages that there is an increasing demand for what we offer. We very much look forward to becoming part of the community in Aston-on-Trent.”
