Top of the Props: Our pick of the best new homes for sale in Bristol

Posted 16 April 2015 by Keith Osborne

Bristol is the UK’s eighth-largest city by population and has established itself as one of the country’s leading centres in financial services and digital industries. Just 90 minutes from London, Bristol is well connected to the rest of the UK by road, rail and air.

The city has joined forces with neighbouring Bath to promote the region’s ambitions for inward investment, identifying six enterprise zones as focal points for regeneration.

The Cities Outlook 2015 report by Centre for Cities revealed that Bristol is in the top ten cities for growth in number of businesses, as well as for growth in number of new homes, with 9.8% more of the latter between 2004 and 2013.

Among the most high-profile residential schemes of recent years, Crest Nicholson’s Harbourside redevelopment, was recently completed having brought a significant number of new homes to a revived city centre location.

Bristol City Council has identified five Neighbourhood Planning Areas: Old Market Quarter and Redcliffe Way in the centre and Lockleaze, Lawrence Weston and Knowle West further out. These plans cover the provision of new housing together with the provision of other local amenities.

Urban & Civic – Bridge Quay

Buyers seeking property with waterside views will be spoilt for choice with the launch of Bridge Quay. The first new homes development to launch in Bristol city centre in 2015, the waterside scheme of 59 apartments offers contemporary living with enviable views of the floating harbour.

Developer Urban and Civic has transformed this landmark building, reconfiguring the layout to form 33 one- and 26 two-bedroom apartments.

Adam Pratt development director of Urban and Civic’s Bristol office, explains: “This is a great building in a fantastic location and we wanted the design and finish of the whole building to reflect this.  We have also invested in its sustainability credentials and are incorporating roof-mounted solar panels, high levels of insulation and energy efficient lighting.”

The development is being marketed by Savills and Ocean.

Taylor Wimpey – The Meadows, Keynsham

Homeowners who reserve selected plots at this in-demand development can take advantage of the leading housebuilder’s Part Exchange scheme, which means they will receive an agreed offer price for their existing property, based on the average of independent professional valuations.

Charlie Joseph, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “Instead of worrying about selling their current home, customers who use the stress-free Part Exchange scheme at The Meadows can rest assured that they have a cash buyer so there’s no worry about their side of the property chain collapsing.

There’s a selection of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom properties currently available at The Meadows with prices starting from £169,000.

An exclusive and partially gated community, The General provides the perfect city centre retreat; minutes from the heart of Bristol, yet far enough to offer an oasis and retreat when needed.

This one-bedroom, second floor mezzanine apartment, priced at £315,000, features contemporary, matt handle-less linear kitchens from Ballerina, Neff stainless steel appliances and a luxurious bathroom by Laufen.
