Top of the Props: Our pick of the best new homes for sale in Edinburgh

Posted 15 April 2015 by Keith Osborne

The Scottish capital’s city council has outlined a number of ambitious plans to regenerate a number of districts, some of which are scheduled to take place over many years. This follows considerable investment for many years that have seen the growth of the city’s financial district and the founding of a new business and technology park.

In 2011, the city adopted a new masterplan for the redevelopment of the port of Leith, which proposed some 15,000 new homes set in nine waterfront ‘villages’, interspersed with new civic spaces and framed by a 3km coastal boardwalk.

Future plans focus on the Calders and Harvesters Way areas in the western outskirts of the city and Curriemuirend Park and Moredunvale in the south, which have all been lined up for significant additions to the existing housing stock, with a high proportion of affordable homes an important part of the plans.

Edinburgh Waterfront is one of the most significant waterfront regeneration projects in Europe today, timetabled to create around 30,000 new homes over a 30-year period. The area will also be home to new schools, health facilities and public open spaces as well as brand new retail, commercial and leisure facilities.
