Show home room by room - The Gyle, Edinburgh

Posted 14 December 2016 by Ben Salisbury

The Gyle on the west of Edinburgh features a Barratt Homes show home that encapsulates the urban living design that appeals to young professionals

A new show apartment has been launched to showcase modern city living at Barratt Homes’ west Edinburgh development, Barratt @ The Gyle.

Designed to reflect the lifestyle of young professionals keen to call the area home, the well-proportioned two bedroom apartment boasts a bright and airy open-plan lounge and kitchen area thanks to two large windows. The property also offers two double bedrooms with an en-suite to the master bedroom.

With interior design by Blocc, the show apartment demonstrates the style of property available at the development, and is well-suited for those looking to combine urban living with easy access to the city bypass and the M8.

Anne Ross, sales director for Barratt Homes East Scotland, said: “At Barratt @ The Gyle we are offering 13 different house types that are perfect for young professionals keen to remain close to the west of the city and the bypass but who also want to retain connections to the city centre.

“Our new show apartment reflects modern lives and at Barratt @ The Gyle our homes are well suited to a range of purchasers.”

Suzanne Kerley, Blocc Interior Designer talks about the design themes for the Gyle show home:

“The design reflects a young, smart and trendy look which will hopefully appeal to the target market.

“We wanted to create a Modern/ Contemporary apartment with a smart and classy on-trend look. To do this we used a predominantly monotone colour palette of black and white with injection tonal greys, coppers and chrome.

“We tried to combine geometric and metallic fabrics and wallpapers with different textures, matt and polished metals with high gloss finishes.

“My favourite feature is the metallic geometric wallpaper use in the Hall and Bedroom one because of the impact and WOW factor!”

Kitchen: "The open plan space in the kitchen diner helps create a modern living space.  The area is light and clear and modern and includes well-designed units to maximise space and link into the living area seamlessly."

Living area: "This features black and white linear diamond effect wallpaper, statement brushed chrome curled metal light fitting combined with copper coloured furniture and chrome and clear glass. We used wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling curtains to give a modern look. Geometric scatter cushions and a geometric rug as well as carefully specified accessories help create a lived in look."

Bedroom 1: “We used impact metallic copper and brown geometric wallpaper with a large chocolate bar style headboard. To complete the look we installed copper wire light fitting, white gloss furniture and layered bedding to give a modern boutique hotel look.”

Bedroom 2: “This room is more about the textures. The tall headboard in a wavy copper fabric creates the impact in this room. It’s different to the other bedroom and provides real contrast.”

There are currently a range of three bedroom mid-terraced townhouses available at Barratt @ The Gyle with prices from £285,995. The Borthwick properties offer an open-plan family and dining room on the ground floor with French doors to the rear garden.

A separate lounge, double bedroom and WC can be found on the first floor, while the well-proportioned master bedroom with en-suite, family bathroom and third double bedroom are located on the second floor.

With Edinburgh’s tram line nearby as well as regular rail and bus services into Edinburgh Waverley, the development is perfectly situated for commuters.

Sales at The Gyle and other sites in Edinburgh helped Barratt Developments in the east of Scotland to a record year of sales success in the region for the year 2015/16, selling over 750 new homes worth nearly £172m.

The figures underline the continued demand for quality new homes in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Help to Buy (Scotland) has remained an important factor in the house builder’s success, taken up by buyers in 19% of all sales. Other incentives including Part Exchange Xtra and Movemaker have also helped to drive the success of Barratt’s sales figures in the East.
