Our latest round-up of new build homes for sale in developments situated across Scotland, covering a range of budgets and property types...

New figures from the Scottish government have shown a decline in new homes starts over the past year, increasing the country’s crisis in housing.

While analysis of the types of new homes built sows a more complex situation, with affordable new homes up 24% from the previous year to 5,054, the fall in private new homes started, down 14% to 11,816, means the overall total is down 5% over 12 months to 16,870.

Nicola Barclay, chief executive of trade body Homes for Scotland, responded to the new statistics: “Whilst it is good to see an increase in social sector funding and consequent activity, we must recognise that this equates to only a third of homes built, and we therefore need an all-tenure approach to delivery if we are to meet the wide range of housing needs and demands of people across Scotland.

“I am deeply concerned by today’s figures which confirm the views of my members that it has never been more difficult to start sites and get much needed homes out of the ground.  Obviously this continuing flat-lining of total supply is bad news in relation to the jobs and investment builders bring to our economy, but unfortunately those worst affected are the young people and growing families struggling to get on the housing ladder.  

“Not only is the lack of an adequate housing supply across all tenures stifling ambition and aspiration, it is also continuing to pressurise house prices and rents as well as threatening Scotland’s future success and social well-being.”

According to the latest LSL New Build Index, annual price rises for new homes in Scotland slowed to the end of January 2017 to 2.0%, from 2.7% the previous year.

Milverton Grange in Lower Whitecraigs, Glasgow (Mactaggart & Mickel Homes)

Milverton GrangeNear the affluent suburb of Giffnock, on the southern edge of the city, this development will soon launch with a collection of 20 high-specification two- and three-bedroom apartments set in communal grounds and with garages designed with a green ‘living roof’. The single block in which these homes are set has a contemporary design from two storeys to six. Jameson Gate in Portobello, Edinburgh (McCarthy & Stone)
