Property Match of the Day – Newcastle Utd v Arsenal

Posted 27 August 2015 by Keith Osborne

If you were a Premier League professional footballer, earning thousands of pounds a week, what kind of new home would you buy? That’s the question the Whathouse.com team has asked itself ahead of next weekend’s fixtures, in particular the clash between Newcastle United and FA Cup holders, Arsenal, and we’ve come up with a couple of amazing new build homes that will fit the bill.

The North East has been home to some of the most exciting players in English football history, and anyone who dons the black and white stripes of Newcastle knows they are expected to follow in the footsteps of Jackie Milburn, Malcolm MacDonald and Alan Shearer, to name but three. New signing Georginio Wijnaldum is purportedly on £50,000 since joining from PSV in the Netherlands and the 24-year-old will have the option of city centre living or a home in the stunning countryside around Tyneside to be within easy reach of St James’ Park.

Arsenal’s most audacious move this summer was acquiring Petr Cech from rivals Chelsea. The Czech international was expected to make a huge difference in the club’s challenge to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004. However, it’s not been plain sailing for him, with a couple of costly gaffes already. At around £100,000 a week, Cech is certainly able to afford one of the more exclusive properties  in and around north London, near to some of his teammates.

Here are our suggestions for the best new homes available for these teams’ players right now...

For the Newcastle team...

Highmoor Farm, Longhorsley, Northumberland (Stone Homes) - £695,000-£1.495million

Highmoor FarmThe small development is the idyllic location for family living in the heart of the Northumberland countryside, providing a range of traditionally styled Northumberland stone farm steadings in a secluded settlement just a few miles from Longhorsley and the popular market towns of Morpeth and Alnwick. This multi-award-winning housebuilder (Gold winner at the WhatHouse? Awards 2014) has its own interiors team, fitting out these properties in handmade kitchens with an Aga and natural stone flooring, oak staircases, timber sash windows, Farrow & Ball paint finishes and internal feature walls. These rural gems are just half-an-hour from training and match-day for the Newcastle United players.

For the Arsenal team...

Grange Avenue, Totteridge (Statons) – £3.6million

Grange AvenueTotteridge is a leafy North London suburb that is already home to a number of the Arsenal squad, and manager Arsene Wenger, and there are some truly spectacular new homes to choose from in the area. Statons is sole agent for this recently completed gated detached residence. Prominent features are the split level reception areas which are linked by a glass staircase, the magnificent Stoneham kitchen with breakfast area, cinema room, gymnasium and a second Stoneham kitchen/cocktail bar. The flexible accommodation that this home affords makes it ideal for both entertaining on a grand scale, with the in-house music system, and family living. It’s also just 20 minutes’ drive from the Arsenal training ground
