As the saying goes “a picture paints a thousand words” and this idyllic thatched cottage provides a picture-perfect country home or a rural weekend retreat in a truly magical setting, nestling peacefully in the heart of the New Forest National Park.
Privacy is ensured within its surrounding grounds which extend to approximately 23 acres and which provide a superb equestrian site, further enhanced by the immediate access to open forest riding.
Steeped in local history, Foxgloves is understood to have served as a former dairy. However, years later it lay abandoned, and rumour has it a local Army Brigadier only knew the cottage existed when he discovered it from the air by accident in 1956.
Since this time the cottage and undergone a meticulous programme of restoration and was acquired in 1993 by the current owners, who have created not only a stunning rural home but have also invited a menagerie of animals to join them, increasing from just a few donkeys initially to in excess of 20 animals.
Outside, the cottage is surrounded by beautifully manicured lawns, interspersed with rose bushes, honeysuckle and shaped box hedging. An attractive thatched seating area provides a lovely place in which to unwind and observe the activity created around the beehives and dovecote, and a thatched hut lies adjacent to a wildlife pond.
To the rear of the cottage there is an extensive stone terrace with a heated swimming pool, while mature hedging and trees provide privacy and seclusion within.
There could be no better location for the equestrian enthusiast with access to open forest riding being provided directly from your own gates, while a range of useful stables, field shelters and outbuildings provide extensive shelter and storage facilities.
