A collection of short news stories on announcements, events and launches from across the UK new homes market this weekend...

Easter weekend may be a holiday for some, but the UK’s housebuilders are working hard to allow house-hunters to find their ideal property over the long Bank Holiday…

Easter opening for new show home in Birmingham

Linden Homes is opening a brand new show home at its Cincinnati development over the Easter weekend to attract house-hunters to the scheme located on land north of the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal.

The three-storey, four-bedroom ‘Kingsbury II’ house will be professionally interior decorated to inspire buyers as well as showing them the build quality and fittings they can expect to find at the development in the range of four-bedroom homes still remaining for sale. Many homes there have already been purchased off-plan by keen homebuyers.

Linda Huntington, head of sales at Linden Homes West Midlands, says: “The Cincinnati site is well known locally, and we are pleased to be bringing a new lease of life to this piece of land with our development. Interest in the homes at Cincinnati has been high. Our remaining homes all occupy a prime waterfront location. We look forward to welcoming visitors to Cincinnati over the Easter weekend.”

Prices at the Cincinnati scheme start at £275,000.

L&Q to build 20,000 new homes across London, with 60% of them “genuinely affordable”

Sadiq Khan and David MontagueThe Mayor of London has agreed a plan with housing association L&Q to build 20,000 new homes across the capital in a deal worth around £8bn, part of a a larger deal to start work on some 90,000 new affordable homes in London by 2021.

At least 60%, or 12,000, of the homes in the L&Q deal will be “genuinely affordable”, says City Hall. Mayor Sadiq Khan adds: “This announcement today demonstrates real progress on the long road towards tackling London's housing crisis and signals my intention to work with housing associations to deliver thousands of homes with at least 60% being affordable. I urge other housing associations to work with us to get on and build the homes London needs.”

David Montague, L&Q Group chief executive, remarks: "Over the last five years L&Q has invested more than £2bn in new homes for London. Now, through this ground-breaking strategic partnership, we will build upon our existing pipeline and devote significant additional capacity into delivering even more new homes in the capital. Our aim is for 60% of these homes to be genuinely affordable. We will also commit to major investment in construction skills and training.”

While recognising that “fixing the housing crisis will be a marathon and not a sprint”, Khan also urged other housing associations in the capital to forge similar deals to secure funding from the Greater London Authority to help build the thousands of affordable homes needed across London.

A new show home at CALA Homes luxury development in Virginia Water

House-hunters looking for a brand new home in the sought-after Virginia Water area in Surrey can now see a fully interior decorated show home at Virginia Gate, a collection of luxury homes from CALA Homes in Englefield Green.

The 1,889 sq ft, three-storey ‘Cumberland’ has been fitted by Daniel Mumford, creative director at Dapa Interiors, who says: “The ‘Cumberland’ is a beautiful family home, which features all of the light and space needed to complement a busy lifestyle. Englefield Green is a prestigious area to live in so we wanted to reflect this in the interior design choices by focusing on creating a high-end contemporary home.”

The ‘Cumberland’ costs £949,995 and has five bedrooms, with its own private balcony and garden. Virginia Gate offers a mix of three-, gour- and five-bedroom homes alongside two-bedroom apartments, catering for a diverse range of homebuyers.

Site plans and designed unveiled for new homes in Waverley, South Yorkshire

Mark MitchellAvant Homes has revealed its plans for 61 new homes in Waverley, Rotherham, with over 100 people attending the sales launch to see the first four house designs for the scheme. The Sorby Row development is part of a major regeneration over 750 acres in South Yorkshire. The masterplan for the Waverley New Community includes 3,890 new homes along with a host of amenities, including shops, a health centre, parks and schools.

Avant Homes Yorkshire managing director, Mark Mitchell said: “The Waverley New Community is a very exciting project and we are delighted to be part of it. The response we’ve had to Sorby Row at such an early stage in the development process is excellent and demonstrates the strong appetite for quality new homes in this area. I’m sure the high demand for homes here is set to continue so we expect many properties on the first phase of build at Sorby Row to sell off-plan.”

Sorby Row will offer a choice of three- and four-bedroom homes, with current prices starting at £279,995 for the larger house types. Construction is set to begin this month with the first residents moving into their new homes in September.

Public welcomed to show homes at Redrow’s Priory Park this weekend

While ‘early bird’ enquirers into the Priory Park development in Stafford have already had a chance to look around the site, Easter weekend sees Redrow Homes opening the doors of its show homes to all house-hunters. In May, homebuyers will be able to see even more show homes nearby at the Church View development.

Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), says: “The list of people interested in purchasing a new Redrow home in Stafford is continuing to grow, with many curious to see what the finished product will look like before committing to buy. It wouldn’t be practical to have a show home for each and every house type, but with examples of two styles of three-bedroom properties and two homes with four bedrooms available to view, buyers will be able to appreciate the different layouts and the quality and finish of our homes.”

Priory Park and Church View offer a choice of three-, four- and five-bedroom properties between them, all from Redrow’s acclaimed Heritage Collection of traditional-looking, Arts & Crafts-inspired designs.

Current prices start from £249,995 for a three-bedroom semi-detached ‘Ludlow’ house.

The four-bedroom ‘Longwood’ detached home is one of only four properties left for sale at The Scholars, a Taylor Wimpey development in Dalkeith, Midlothian, and it has just had £15,000 dropped from its price as the housebuilder’s current ‘star buy’ property. “There are also some impressive incentives available for the last four buyers so it’s a really great time to pop along to the development to see how we can help to make moving to a new home a reality sooner rather than later.”
