New homes in Yeovil offer perfect work-life balance for new homes buyers

Posted 16 January 2015 by Keith Osborne

House buyers searching for a better work-life balance in 2014 could look at setting up home in South Somerset, where the popular town of Yeovil currently has developments with superb options for both first-time buyers and second-time movers.

Situated just 40 miles south of Bristol and 30 miles from the county town of Taunton, Yeovil is best known as a centre of the aircraft and defence industries. It is also conveniently situated for commuters on the A30 and A37 roads, and has two mainline railway stations providing access to the major cities of Exeter, Bristol and London. For leisure time, there is plenty to do - with an excellent shopping area, two theatres, a museum, a ten-screen cinema and ten pin bowling alley, and Ninesprings, South Somerset's largest country park. For beach-lovers, the stunning South Coast is only about an hour's drive away through the gorgeous Dorset countryside.

Just on the fringes of the town is the major Wyndham Park development, which includes new homes from various house builders, and is just a five minute drive from Yeovil in an area well-served by local primary and secondary schools. It is also just moments away from lovely walks along the River Yeo, and close to both of the town's railway stations for commuters. Barratt Homes has a collection of one-, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes priced from £148,950 at Wyndham Park, offering lovely countryside views and appealing to a wide variety of buyers. Now in its third year, the development already has a well-established community feel, with many more new homes yet to be built.

David Wilson Homes has a selection of two- to five-bedroom homes coming soon at Wyndham Park, including four-bedroom homes priced from £285,000 and five-bedroom homes available from £350,000. There will be a choice of three-storey or two-storey living, and again many of the homes will enjoy pleasant countryside views.

Closer to Yeovil's town centre, within easy walking distance of all the main shops and amenities, Elan Homes has created Harbin Fields. This exclusive collection offers brand new four-bedroom detached and link-detached homes priced from £249,995 to £296,995. It is handy for commuters to Bristol and many other towns in the area, as it is situated close to the Pen Mill railway station, which is on the Bristol to Weymouth line.

For house-hunters who would rather live somewhere smaller and quieter, but within easy striking distance of Yeovil, Persimmon Homes has created Farley Fields in the pretty, sought-after Somerset village of South Petherton. Just 10 miles or about a 20-minute drive from Yeovil, Farley Fields incorporates a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, all benefiting from easy access to the A303 for commuting to nearby larger towns such as Ilminster. There are a number of purchase assistance schemes available at this development, including the government-backed Help to Buy and their own Part Exchange scheme.

Finally, for house-hunters in Yeovil who are in no rush to move immediately, this month Wyatt Homes is starting construction of its new Brimsmore development in Yeovil, which will incorporate a mix of styles and designs comprising of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes forming the initial part of a new, wider Brimsmore community. An on-site sales suite is due to be opened in the early part of this year to give interested buyers the opportunity to find out about progress at the development and discuss their new home requirements.
