East Lothian new homes popular with professionals and commuters

Posted 1 October 2013

Bustling towns, historic villages and coastal communities make East Lothian a popular place with families and downsizers, while the area’s proximity to Edinburgh ensures it remains popular with professionals and commuters. Buyers looking to find a new home in East Lothian have plenty of new-build properties to choose from whatever their needs.

Dovecoat Steadings is an Ogilvie Homes development in the quiet village of Bolton near Haddington. The rural setting is complemented by the choice of conversion properties and carefully designed new-build homes at the site. Prices on currently available properties start from £317,000 for a brand new family home featuring a spacious living room with semi open-plan kitchen, master bedroom with en suite, three further bedrooms, downstairs WC, family bathroom and ample storage space.

David Wilson Homes has a collection of properties on the market in Prestonpans. A choice of two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes is available at Prestonfields with prices ranging from £137,995 for a two-bedroom apartment with sitting room and dining kitchen to £241,995 for a detached four-bedroom villa boasting a formal lounge as well as an open-plan kitchen, dining and family area. The homes here have been designed around a Charles Rennie Macintosh theme, creating a distinctly Scottish look.

Just one property currently remains on the market at Barratt’s Amberlea development, which is also in Prestonpans. The six-bedroom detached villa will set you back £319,995 and is laid out over three levels. The ground floor comprises a formal lounge, dining room, breakfasting kitchen and cloakroom.  A master bedroom with en suite and dressing area, three further bedrooms, a family bathroom and a study make up the middle level while two bedrooms and a shower room complete the top floor. There is also an integral double garage.

A choice of three different home styles is available at CALA Homes’ Gilsland Grange development in North Berwick. The properties are part of the housebuilder’s acclaimed Signature Collection and are priced from £520,000 for the ‘Kennedy’, a five-bedroom detached villa with formal lounge, semi open-plan kitchen/dining room/family area, en suites to two of the bedrooms and an integral garage. Families with young children will enjoy the open space and play area that has been incorporated into the scheme and the scenic coastal town is a lovely place to bring up children.

Situated in Musselburgh, Almond Park is a Taylor Wimpey development of two-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached houses. The ‘Balfour’ semi-detached home costs £173,000 and boasts a spacious lounge/dining room with French doors to the rear garden. The kitchen, downstairs WC and ample storage cupboards complete the ground floor.  Upstairs are three bedrooms and a family bathroom.
