#TuesdayTips - Festive feels for your home this Christmas

With the festive season upon us, the WhatHouse? team has put together some Yuletide tips to make your house feel extra Christmassy...

Christmas is a great time to start the de-clutter before the New Year comes around, and as it is a time of family get-togethers, mulled wine and mince pie dinner parties and general festivities, it’s the perfect time to have a good clean up to make your home the perfect host.

Making your home feel beautiful and festive at Christmas isn’t just about covering the tree in tinsel and baubles and hanging stockings by the fireplace, although that is always a lot of fun, there are so many other things you can do to bring some Christmas cheer to your home. We thought we’d put together a few helpful tips to make your home feel as welcoming and cosy as it possibly can over the season.

There is nothing like a scented candle (or five) to entice visitors into your home. They give the whole home a beautiful glow and a warm, cosy feel. There are a lot of Christmassy flavours around at the moment, a quick and easy festive fix. If you have kids or pets running around, opt for battery operated candles with flickering flames.

Fairy lights are usually a staple on any tree, but why not use them in other places around the house? Around door frames or along shelves or mantelpieces can give a lovely festive feel to any room – and they can stay up long after Santa has left.

A wreath hanging on the door always looks beautiful, but why not try using a wreath as a centrepiece on your dining table? Add cinnamon sticks for a delicious scent, and you could even dry your own orange slices to slide into the design to give it a really unique finish.

It’s lovely having Christmas and holiday cards sent from all corners of the earth, but they can make your shelves look cluttered. Hang some ribbon up on your walls and hang the cards from that.
