A unique development nestled in rural Surrey has won a Bronze at the prestigious WhatHouse? Awards 2016 for this respected housebuilder...

National housebuilder David Wilson Homes added to a growing collection of prizes for its unique Leithfield Park development in Surrey with a hard-fought Bronze for Best Exterior Design at the 35th WhatHouse? Awards.

This year’s guest host Lord (William) Hague took charge of the 35th edition of the biggest event in UK housebuilding. Some 1,700 senior industry figures attended the Gala Luncheon, held as always in the Great Room of the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

WhatHouse? Awards 2016 judges' report All the homes at Leithfield Park – located on the outskirts of Milford, just south of Godalming – are specially designed for this site, with many barn-style features to reflect its rural setting and local architectural styles, recently winning a ‘Built for Life’ award to mark their quality. These homes have a premium interior specification too. Additionally, the site has offered 10 self-build plots where buyers can choose from a selection of house types and personalise them to create a truly unique property to meet their taste.

Lynnette St Quintin, the sales director for David Wilson Homes Southern Counties who collected the Award at the Gala Luncheon, says: “It was a fantastic result for the team to pick up another prestigious award for the range of quality homes at the highly attractive Leithfield Park near Godalming, Surrey. Not only are we winning awards at county level but winning a Bronze at the WhatHouse? awards for Best Exterior Design puts this development as one of the best in the country.

“This is an outstanding achievement for everyone involved in the project who have worked tirelessly to reimagine a vision of the perfect English village at Leithfield Park. The development has everything from the Arts and Crafts-inspired Manor house and surrounding cottages, to Edwardian houses on the outskirts, and even through to the 21stcentury contemporary barn conversions. Winning a WhatHouse? Award is not only a superb legacy for Leithfield Park, but also for David Wilson Homes as a quality housebuilder.”

Praise from the panel in the Awards judges’ report includes: “This is a substantial scheme of 108 dwellings but it is thoughtfully and carefully stitched into its rural setting. The shared landscaping around the housing is crucial to the success of the masterplan and sensitively integrates the new housing into an area of outstanding natural beauty and existing ancient woodland. The layout and style of the different housing types suggest that the buildings have been laid out organically over time creating a sense of longevity across the site.

“Great care has been taken to create a range of different housing types, from ‘barn’ to ‘house’ to ‘farmstead’, which reflect the charm of local vernacular and historic building styles while also exploiting the best advances of 21st-century environmental and architectural design”
