WhatHouse? Awards 2015 winners – Redrow Homes, Best Large Housebuilder

Posted 26 November 2015 by Keith Osborne

We take a look at one of the major companies who won a Gold at the recent WhatHouse? Awards 2015 Gala Luncheon...

Redrow has retained its Best Large Housebuilder Gold from last year, with the WhatHouse? Awards 2015 celebrity host David Walliams presenting the plaque to chief executive John Tutte.

Building over 4,000 homes each year at more than 100 locations across England and Wales, Redrow is now one of the country’s best-known housebuilders, coming a long way since its beginnings as a civil engineering company in 1974. With founder Steve Morgan back at the helm, the company has gone from strength to strength and now has an annual turnover in excess of £1bn.

WHA 2015 Judges Report coverThis year, the company also won the Bronze for Best Landscape Design for its ongoing Lucas Green development in Chorley, Lancashire, where a restored and now Grade II listed pillbox and gun mounting from World War II has just been unveiled as part of the public open space.

Tutte says: “It’s fantastic to win the Best Large Housebuilder award once, but extra special to win it for a second year on the run. We’re striving to be the best in an industry with very tough competition.

“Our philosophy is to build the homes our customer really want to live in, deliver exceptional customer service, create communities that will stand the test of time, and ensure our business is a sustainable one. Our aim to be the homebuilder of choice for our customers is strengthened by independent awards such as this.”

The WhatHouse? Awards judges said of the company’s achievement:

“Redrow retains its title in an incredibly tight category where the big beasts of the housebuilding jungle roam. In this category it is important to look behind the numbers; for what is key at the volume end of the market is not just what and how they are building, but what the big developers are doing to promote the need for more homes, putting their names and reputations out there.

“Redrow once again led the field with initiatives throughout its business, backed by quality products, both traditional and contemporary, across England and Wales.

“It is strengthening its commitment to sustainability, continues at the forefront of industry training, and is revolutionising its customer service.

“Redrow’s marketing continues to evolve and embrace online technology. Indeed, its Redrow TV channel includes a host of videos, highlighting not just the developments but the way Redrow staff engage with the communities in which they build, enjoy and deliver.

“To borrow from its own marketing: Very Redrow. Very Impressive.”
