Skype helps Ian and Jackie swap Middle East for South West

Posted 26 October 2016 by Ben Salisbury

A couple took a tour of their new Bloor home via Skype which helped them decide to make the move from Qatar to a new terraced home in Totnes, Devon

A Skype tour of a new housing development led to a 4,000 mile move for Ian and Jackie Edelman.

The couple have moved to a three-bedroomed terrace in Baltic Wharf, one of Bloor Homes’ developments in Totnes, Devon, having lived in Qatar for the last four years where they both worked in museums.

“We finished working in the Middle East and knew we wanted to return to the UK but were looking for somewhere new, which is when we found the Bloor development in Totnes”, said Jackie.

Having lived in new homes before, Jackie and Ian were keen to find out about the area before buying, so enlisted Ian’s brother Roger, who took them on a Skype tour of the development.

Ian said: “It was strange buying a home without ever setting foot in it, but it has been nice having the builders here to show us where things are.

“Having seen it on Skype and chosen the things we wanted, it was exactly as we expected it to be,” Jackie added.

Location was a huge factor in choosing where to move to as the couple, both 64, have family in London, so links to the capital were vital.

But despite having planned as much as they could from their apartment in Qatar, the area is still full of pleasant surprises.

Ian said: “We didn’t have the opportunity to look at the area properly, but having the River Dart so close by and so many beautiful walks into the countryside in either direction made it the perfect location.

“We’re also only a five-minute walk to the nearest supermarket so we don’t need to rely on a car.”

Jackie has already been in touch with museums in the area as a keen volunteer, but for now they intend to enjoy settling into their new home and filling it with new furniture.

There is a range of one and two-bedroom apartments and three, four and five-bedroom houses available at Baltic Wharf, priced from £189,950.
